How far do you go in role-play in this game?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 11:18 pm

I like to role-play pretty well.
I always make food depending on the time, like dinner around 5.00.
I always sleep everyday and when I am going to travel I use the carraiges at cities instead of fast travel.
I mainly have professions, like a mage, blacksmith etc.
I help around the city I live in. I like to deliver things.
I usually stick to the one hold, I like to travel around it.

That's only some things I do, how about you?

Also, If you were to marry someone in Skyrim. Would you choose the same race, looks, how much you like that character?
How would your character like to marry?

My Nord warrior is not allowed to loot the tombs. Or the dead. He also can't pick locks, sneak, steal and cast spells. He's a honourable warrior and he's proud of it. So yeah, I role-play a lot.

I've taken a "Mind of Freeman" style to roleplaying at this point, where I balance being in character and adding colorful commentary on what's going on. I do turn it off if I'm map hopping to find which house I put a specific item, but even then, I'll toss out some snide remarks about having to go all over the country for a pair of gloves.

I eat and drink at the local bar very often, chat with people... pity there's no newspaper as it was in Oblivion...
i enjoy cooking, especially soups and stews (roasts and steaks are not healthy for my slim toned elven body).
and also i ask my consort to sleep next to me every time i need to sleep at home, feels good ;-)

Is it possible to get through the game without lockpicking? I would give anything for Lock Bash so my warrior could actually act like one.

To be honest Skyrim is the hardest of all the TES games to date to actually Role-Play in. Everything is set to make it all easier and the same, no matter what you do. Very frustrating.

But, my Nord warrior only wears Nord-ish looking armor (Leather and Scale). He never cast a spell or makes potions. I do loot the tombs, but I've been considering a play through not looting the jars and urns (since all you get is a few gold and minor gems anyway). But Sadly my Nord warrior would never join the Mages Guild, or Thieves Guild, or DB, so he can never get all the word walls. He also refuses to curse himself so he can't finish the Companions. These are the parts where really role-playing just bites in this game.

It's Obvious that Bethesda designed the game with the idea that a person would do everything with just one character. Well no one deeply role-playing would ever do that, so to design a role-playing game with that requirement is just wrong to put it mildly.

only as far as character creation and I try to play the quests and give answers to speech that suit that character.

Things like armor and weapons etc are obviously important. I don't go for the "best armor" everytime as that would be boring (in fact I haven't even got a character than wears Daedric as I find it is getting boring being the best everytime. I try and choose an armor that I feel is made for or suits the race)

I literally roleplay an adventurer. My main nord has made a lot of friends across Skyrim. So he travels across Skyrim, visiting friends and *cough* slaughtering all Thalmor he encounters *cough*. He lives in Solitude and checks with Tullius and Rikke everyday he's there. Checks on his Companions whenever he's in Whiterun, occasionaly killing a Dragon with Farkas. And whenver he encounters something new he investigates, alongside an Erandur with an excessive love of fire. And I may even occasionaly visit Windhelm to check and see how Bruunwulf Free-Winter is doing (and to teabag Ulfric's corpse

That's actually quite fine with me, though in my game, they seem to have multiplied quite a bit.

My Paladin is on the fence about the Vigil. They haven't DONE anything that is morally questionable yet, but their attitude reveals they are quite narrow minded.

True, but they still fight for Stendarr, so I have no quarell with them. Altough, I have befriended a few Daedric Princes (Azura, Sheogorath, and Meridia, the rest can go die in a hole..... I mean get banished in a hole) and won't hesitate to defend them against the Vigil.

I pray to the Shrine of Daedric Princes and would rather sacrifice deers and bears for Lord Boethiah instead of donating to the Nine :stare:

I pray for all the Nightengales out there too. As far as I'm concerned, I'm spening the rest of eternity kickin' werewolf butt in Sovngarde alongside Kodlak.

Eat-drink-sleep is considered a part, if not being the backbone, of RPing for some. Doing those things can seem to just be too tedious at times. I still do from time to time, but they are becoming fewer and further between.

For me RPing is about how and what my characters decides to go and do. If there is no real reason for them to go some where...I don't take them there. Just because you know the Blade of Cut-You-Deep is in Bloat Butt Bottom doesn't mean your character does. It about doing things that re fitting to the character.

I installed a couple of mods that alternate the start and provided a cool player house. I started on the East side of the map, I knew that Azura's quest was close, but my character had no reason to go to it or even know it was there. Hell, he was robed and left for dead in the middle of nowhere. He had no reason to even have a map...After a few hrs of gameplay, he stumbled on a passerby that was on his way to the shrine. NOW he knew where it was and from looting an unlucky adventurer, he had reason to posses a map.

I then tried to come up with a reason to go to the new home. I thought that by just not fast traveling and heading straight to it, if he survived, that would warrant him reward for the place. (playing DID) After one hr of gameplay, he made it. BUT...I felt dirty because he had absolutely no reason to be going in that direction. I reloaded.

As it happens, during Azura's quest, he found himself with view of the new player home. NOW he had warrant to be there.

My Mage never stole or looted from urns or the dead that didn't attack him first. My dunmer two handed tank never sneaks or uses ranged weapons, he just kicks the door in and wreaks havok.;

I used to have backstorys, then I just decided to do characters who were evil or good. My khajiit is evil, my upcoming Orc (or maybe High elf) will be Neutral. I have yet to get the balance right, my evil is easy just kills anyone who crosses his path, my other kills Thiefs who attack him, those crazy people that attack you, he is with the dawnguard, he only harms those who will harm him. His companion is an armoured troll. Or I will make an evil Altmer because they are naturally evil.
