How do i find out what kind of ram my computer takes?

running with 512 mb of ram and when i dxdiag says i only have 480 mb .-.

so id like to know if its possible to go some where and buy more ram that would work with my comp with out having to drag the whole pc over to said place

You're computer is pretty ancient and prices of DDR/DDR2 is pretty expensive.

You'll need to find out what RAM your motherboard takes. Crucial will be your best bet. http://www.crucial.com/systemscanner/ as it's simple enough anyone with half a brain can find out their PC's memory. Link to the page crucial brings you to after scanning.
