How do Follower's (and other NPC's I suppose) make decisions

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 11:36 am

I think my next project is to make it such that the player gets to choose all of their companion's perks. But, I'm concerned that if I do the system I have in mind, they'll basically just be getting double the perks because of whatever the computer chooses on top of mine. What I'm hoping to do is "turn off" or eliminate whatever system is in place for Followers (but not other NPCs of course) so that my system can run without making every follower a god amongst men.

Wait, NPCs can choose perks on their own? I thought they only got the perks assigned to them in the CK.

Wait, what? I...I think you might be right. Holy crap NPCs don't get freaking perks as they level? Oh ho ho! I think my new mod just got way easier.
Heck, I could expand this and make it so that all the enemies get perks too.

Er, you may want to read the "Notes" section of http://www.creationkit.com/AddPerk_-_Actor.

God I wish I had read that before I spent the last four hours making this mod. Sigh. Well, time to do some voice acting for Interesting NPCs.

If anyone can think of ways to add perks to NPCs I'd be appreciative.

I haven't had a chance to try this yet, but I saw that magic effects could apply perks. So you may not be able to apply perks directly to NPCs, but perhaps you could add a constant effect power that applied a perk.

AFAIK this doesn't work either. There is currently no way to add perks to NPCs on the fly.

Yeah, I had tried that actually. There ARE a few perk effects you can add through spells actually, but not all of them, nor even many.

could you add ability based perks to the NPC in the CK (load them up to the teeth), but each perk has conditions that only "enable" when the condition is met

You could probably add a level condition to an "npc-version" of the perk that you give to the follower. She won't be able to make use of its effects until she meets the requirement.

Hmm. That's an interesting idea. I could even tie the perk to an associated global which, when set from 0 to 1, enables the perk. Thanks guys!
