How to get all companions at the same time (glitch)

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 10:04 am

First this is not my glitch, I just searched youtube and found a video tutorial of this glitch. The video is a little long so I'll write the steps out here and post a link to the video at the end. Even the creator of this video says that he wasn't the first to discover this.

Second and most important for this glitch if you have already started Veronica's companion quest or Veronica is dead in your game then this glitch cannot be used and you'll need to reload a previous save or start a new game.

Step 1: Head to the 188 Trading post and recruit Veronica. You'll then need to trigger 3 events so that she approaches you about her companion quest. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/I_Could_Make_You_Care

Step 2: When she asks something along the lines of "if you have a minute there's something I want to talk to you about" say not now.

Step 3: Fire Veronica and go hire another humanoid companion.

slight spoiler
Step 4: Go back to the 188 trading post and talk to Veronica. Select the option "what did you want to talk about earlier?", she'll say she wants you to go to the BoS with her. Select the option that she should go alone, she'll try and convince you again and select you won't go and she should go alone. When this happens it will say you've lost Veronica's Scribe Assistant perk even thought you didn't have her as a companion, this seems to create another slot for a companion.

Step 5: Talk to Veronica again and select "I think we should travel together" and you'll have 2 humanoid companions. continue to repeat steps 3-5 until you have all the followers you want.

You sir, are amazing. Gonna have to try this out soon. One thing, though, how does Dead Money affect this glitch?
Also: does the game run significantly slower or crash more frequently?

I'd probably try it if I hadn't done Veronica's quest already. Maybe on a future file.

Okay I've got Lily and Veronica on point defense with a Super Sledge and a Ballistic Fist, Raul, Boone, and Arcade wearing First Recon Berets with their crit rates maxed out carrying the Gobi and This Machine and the YCS-186 for anything that penetrates that perimeter, and ED-E keeping an eye on anything that comes in behind me.

Nice! Do you notice any extra framerate issues/crashes/increased loading time? If I ran with four or five followers in Fallout 3 (did it just for fun, I normally used Charon only), the game would run slowly at times.

We just took Quarry Junction without anyone getting attacked.
It's a little choppy. Nothing too bad.

Are you on PC? Do you think only Veronica, Boone, and ED-E will mess it up too much?

Even if you don't want them following you, it's a nice way to get some perks. I'm thinking I'll having veronica, Boone, and ED-E with me always (the game didn't even slow down when I had the NCR Ranger following me, so it shouldn't be too big of a problem), with Raul standing guard at the Lucky 38 entrance, so I can keep his perk. If combat gets too easy, I'll fire veronica. Thanks again for the find OP!

I haven't found any frame rate issues so far, Quarry Junction was a lot of fun and I'm about to go to Deathclaw Promontory to outfit my crew with a couple new armors. I did have a couple freezes since I got my new companions but this game can be so random at times I don't know if it's the extra companions or just an unlucky streak.

Dead Money makes you relinquish all companions which I assume would cause you to have to do the whole process again but shouldn't ruin the glitch as long as you haven't accepted Veronica's quest. There is also no reason you can't do Veronica's quest after this though it's just risky as if you lose your companions somehow the glitch won't be available for use again later. I don't like having to sacrifice Elijah's Ramblings for this perk but I'm using this play through for just a bit of fun.

I have Raul wearing the Raider Badlands armor and Wastehound helmet, I have Gannon in the Assassin Suit and Slave Scarf, I'm still trying to decide what to put on the others.
I also looted enough Automatic Rifles so that we could each have one and loaded each of us with 1k rounds of JSP ammo. It probably won't take long to go through the ammo but it's fun so far.

Also if you leave your companions waiting for 3 days they automatically stop being companions and go to their waiting spot. So if you plan on leaving them behind keep in mind how long you leave them or you'll have to repeat the glitch again.

Note: if you're doing this DO NOT get Euclid's C-Finder in Freeside after setting Helios One to power Archimedes II. That starts the quest.

I find it simpler to just mod on PC. :cryvaultboy:

The difficulty gets messed up though.

You don't grab/want multiple companions for the difficulty. It's for the lulz.
But yeah, without extra difficulty/spawn mods etc, multiple companions=never having to pull out your own gun again, ever. And even w/some extra mods, it's still not much of a hardship if you go past 3 human companions.

Still, if you're on a console, this is a nice find. At least they can play around with it. Lots o' giggles to be had.

There's nothing as entertaining as running towards Deathclaws with Nephi's Golf Driver and watching them get cut down three feet away from you.

I've used up my three Enclave armors on Veronica, Boone, and myself. Can anyone suggest an outfit for Raul that wouldn't ruin the Enclave feel we've got going on? I also have ED-E, so we're practically an Enclave squad.

There's an Enclave Officer uniform available if you get the Remnants to fight at the Dam... available during the dam battle, anyway.

I was hoping before that; the All-Purpose Science Suit looks like an Enclave scientist outfit, but I don't want my weakest follower in clothing. I did choose to get Full Maintenance, so I might just use him like a utility follower and not a combat one.

Wow, important news: it appears the number of companion slots never decreases. I was worried I would lose Lily forever when she had to be separated from the party in order to finish Guess Who I Saw Today so For Auld Lang Syne could progress, but she came right back when I asked her to travel again. Amazing. F'ing amazing.

Wait, does that mean if you lose them for Dead Money, you can recruit them again?? I don't want to do Veronica's quest yet because future DLC may cause you to lose your companions; but if this is true...
