How to get and keep a dragons attention?

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:19 pm

Has anyone else had this problem?

More often than not, a dragon will just circle about a bit and then either bugger off somewhere else or land miles away and attack some out of sight creature or other.

I quite often think great, a dragon, and then run to a local bit of civilization and hope that the guards etc will engage it in some epic battle.

OR

I will be with some super bassass follower and want to see them go toe to toe with the dragon only for it to either never land and then fly off or land on the other side of somewhere I can't reach easily and attack some mud crabs.

I once got attacked by one out side the Thalmor place and tired to lure it inside to see what would happen but it flew off.

It bugs the hell out of me.

Is there a specific reason for this, as it am I too stealthy or is there some other way to get and more importantly KEEP a dragons attention.

Dragons have their own `personality` if you want. They`ll attack if and when they feel like it.

Fire an arrow into them when he swoops over, that should do it. You need a good aim.

That must be it.

I need to antagonise them a bit more.

Some dragons don't land as they have a specific location they guard, like Shearpoint etc. They only attack enemies that come too close to their lair. The dragons that attack you are the ones that have spawned close to you. But sometimes they do attack other targets if they are close to your location. It is annoying though, chasing after a fleeing dragon.

In praise of the humble shock spell. Fire and frost are just too slow. They said before release that the dragons would be off doing their own thing, and you would have to divert their attention from doing whatever it was that is more important than toasting your character.

Make yourself an easy meal, dragons seem to prioritize targets based on threat and proximity.

Dragons are like Cats, you have to move to get them interested. So, run and eventually it will notice you and come down to play.

I had this same issue two nights ago. A dragon was circling above me near the Western Watch Tower. I did everything I could to get it to land, Shouts, Waiting etc. Finally, I just started running across the field to a nearby fort. The dragon started chasing me. Then he got interested in the fort and they helped me take him out.

And, if the running does not get the dragon to notice me, it does not matter as I am off doing something else.
