How to get a dragon to fight you (if flying far away)

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 7:33 pm

I don't know if this has been said or not (did a quick search and didn't find anything), but there is an easy way to "fix" the dragons that keep flying away from you while chasing after it. Coincidentally this also fixed the backwards flying dragons for me in 1.2, which leads me to believe they may be related. Anywho, if such a situation arises, try bringing up the console, click on the pesky dragon, and type "resurrect". When I did this in 1.2 the crazy shaking backward dragons immediately started behaving normal. I still have to use this every now and then when the dragon I want to fight runs from me.

Hmm, disable then enable doesn't work for you? Just resurrect?

Hmm this could be a workaround but, are we talking every single dragon you see will fly away OR just some ? By default in Skyrim there are different types of Dragon AI, some are attack some are Only Scout dragons and will just circle, make noise and fly away, this is how their AI package is set up to act, so unless you have 9 out of 10 dragon fly away i would say nothing is wrong. (reference in the Skyrim Guige)

Kudos for the "fix' though if people are actually having Bugged fully non attacking dragons across the board.

~MoveTo Player should get their attention. They'll usually start talking smack immediately. Also, if you can hit them with a fireball or arrow, they should get angry, but make sure you're in a clear/flat area so they can land or they'll fly off and pick a fight with someone else.

majority of the dragons tend to fly away..... even the ones that seem to be quest driven refuse to land/attack or even take notice of me..

drives me nuts as i'm so TOTALLY lacking dragon souls... drives me insane

i had 3 dragons show up at one time 2 days ago.... NOT ONE of them attacked, they all circled for ages and then left. i don't know how many times i reloaded to try and get their attention and nail them with an arrow.

even using console commands to get up in their faces, still ignored me!

A lot of dragons I've seen are just decoration. But I know going into and coming out a nearby mine / cave / whatever when a dragon is flying circles nearby induces a good chance of a fight with one upon exiting.

Ok so this was for the dragons in 1.2 that obviously went nuts flying backwards and sometimes lagged your game. In 1.3.10 there are some dragons that fly directly above you, but you can just use dragonrend to bring them down, or get lucky with a firebolt. There is also Midas Magic mod that gives you spells like frost beam, which is basically longer range and can get a dragon's attention. But if you are chasing after a dragon and it just seems to keep getting further and further away, it is probably a glitch and "resurrect" seems to work.

ogreb - I guess the "decoration" dragons, would be the ones that you can get to fight with this command. Not sure Beth actually intended to have decoration dragons though lol

I had tried that in 1.2 and it didn't work, but resurrect did. So in 1.3+ I continued using it.

Yes I had to fight 3 at once one time, although one of them was not random and was from a word wall.
