How do I get my microphone back?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 1:48 pm

Hey all, I screwed up. I disabled my microphone thinking it would stop giving me feedback when I closed the lid on my laptop. Well it didin't work. So now I try to put it back on and I can't. I have an Acer Aspire 8730 using Windows 7 64 bit. I right clicked on the speaker Icon on the bottom right. I clicked sounds, and then went to the recordings tab. From there, I turned it off. Now I go back and nothing is there. It says No audio deviced are installed. the 3 buttons on the bottom are greyed out.

I tried to go into MSN to see if I can configure that way, no go. It says I have no microphone.

So what can I do? How do I find out what to install? I can't rememember the name. I try to go to device manager but I see nothing there, no question mark or anything. So how can I get my Microphone back?

Will a System restore work? Any help would be appreciated. I don't know if I had Realtek or not, I think it's something like that. What drivers or software should I be looking at? Can anyone help me?

I can't tallk on Skype now, I feel like such an idiot for doing this.

Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, decided it was a good idea to hide disabled sound devices by default in Vista/7. Right click anywhere in the box and there should be an option to show disabled devices, after which you can enable it.

Thank you so much. It worked. I didn't know about this at all.

Thank you again Defron, greatly appreciated.
