How do I get my own voice singing an original song into Skyr

Post » Sat Jun 16, 2012 8:22 pm

Please don't lock this thread. :D

I'm very interested in the procedure used to insert ANY different music into the game. Every time I try to search for the answer I find a locked thread.

SO LETS BE CLEAR:

* This assumes that the user holds the copyright to any music they use

or

* The music is in the public domain (too old for copyright)

and

* Has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH ANYTHING BETHESDA EVER PRODUCED.

I think that should cover everything.

Can anyone tell me how to put a recording of myself singing my new song I just wrote into the game? thanks.

I believe one would have to remove all voice files for singing and replace them all with you. i think.

Did I mention I also did a instrumental harmonica version of my new tune? How would I replace the background music that plays during battles and in the open spaces. I've heard people talke about doing it but can't find instructions how.

I think the biggest obstacle may be overly zealous and missinformed mods...

Oh, and just to be sure:
Best play your music on instruments you build yourself from trees you planted years ago and record it with DIY-equipment from your own workshop.
You might never know if there is some poor CEO of some entertainment industry company whose feelings might be hurt otherwise for infringing his precious copyright.

Seriously, I doubt there is a law anywhere in the world preventing you from exchanging the music in a game you own with different music you legally acquired.

If there is some rule, please mods, make a clear statement why we are not allowed to discuss this.
If you find this to be trolling in any way, please delete this post and let OP continue his discussion.

laws do not = forum rules. There is MUCH that can be done legally that CANNOT be discussed here.

But, now that you mention it, I did infact build my instruments. And I deforested no timber either. I built them all from recycled material: 2 parts newspaper, 1 part puppy dog farts, 1 part rainbows.

Now, someone explain how to put (this acceptable) music into the game. thanks.

While you are technically allowed to post (non-commercially) a cover version of in-game songs and music on youtube and websites like that, it is still in a legally grey area, which is why most threads like this one end up locked.

Yea, but that's not what he intends to do, he wants to put his own music into the game, nothing else.

I think I wrote it in one of the locked (and deleted?) threads:
If you take a look at the sound.bsa, you can find some music folders there.
The files are .xwm, which VLC recocnizes as Windows Media Audio 2.
I don't know which file-types Skyrim supports, but you could maybe test by recreating the folder structure found in the sound.bsa file and put your self-composed and self-produced music of which you hold all rights into the respective folders.

Sorry, that's all I can think of.

I'm not sure how you go about it, but I know for certain (thanks for 4 years studying music) that if you don't own the copyright to the songs you want to use, it's alright to use them but only for personal use, if you want to make a mod with the music or send it to anyone other than yourself, then you would need permission from each of the song owners, unless it's on a creative commons liscense, then you should be allowed to use it as long as it isn't for commercial use.

If you own the copyright, you can do whatever you like with it

Again, legality is different from acceptable forum discussion. This forum can be as exclusionary of topics as it wants be without any relation to law. I'm not singing their praises, but just recognizing how it is.

That said, all I want to do is put my voice making fart noices into the Skyrim game. Lets be careful so this stays open. I want a definitive solution to this before it gets locked.

I will work on that and report back.

There are programs about that can be used for the conversion of audio files but another obstacle lies before you. Skyrim uses location and event specific music so unless you want to replace vanilla music(in specific location) you will have to wait for the CK to add your own.
