How do I get rid of the grass?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 4:32 am

I just built a house and I'm having trouble removing the grass/weeds in the area. I tried using the landscaping tool to paint over them but it doesn't do anything. When I lower the land, the grass/weeds just float in mid air. I can't seem to find anyway to delete them.

I build a well and I want to delete the grass around it so it doesn't look crappy. Is there any way I can do that?

You need to paint a no-grass texture at that place. Set the "Max Opacity" to 100% and the new texture should overwrite the existing one at once. Using an edit radius of 1 is a bit tricky as you need to paint directly over a vertex to actually change anything, so better set it to 2, and redo the outside-textures later.

Also use "I" to see which textures are currently used in that cell. There can be only 6 textures per quarter-cell (quad), a seventh one will be black until you remove another texture, if you try to paint an eight texture and this texture has grass or rocks, then only those tiny objects will be painted, and since they aren't linked to a displayed texture they won't move with the land. Deleting the 8th texture in the "I" menu removes the objects (you may need to move the land or reload the cell to see any effect.)

Or you could simply raise the ground a few feet, since the grass doesn't move with it, it will disappear...you'll need to do some fiddling at the edges of the raised area(s) by scaling the objects up a bit and rotating them to make them mesh without leaving a gap, but with a bit of work, it can be managed.

This solution is much simpler than it sounds. Just paint over it with a non-grass texture. Grass will remain in the editor, which is annoying, but in game it dioesn't render.

Yes, usually, but in this case this doesn't quite fit to "I tried using the landscaping tool to paint over them but it doesn't do anything."

I just tried painting over the grass/weeds with a fall forest texture but only the ground under them gets replaced not the orange & green grass I'm trying to get rid of.
http://img864.imageshack.us/img864/4112/leaves.png I pressed "I" and deleted every texture but the stupid grass won't go away.

I tried playing around with the textures, deleting all the quads and everything gets deleted except for the grass. Not sure what to look under to get rid of it.

Screenshots of the "I" menu or the textue you're using would be more interesting than showing us the grass.

Have you tried to save your mod and reload? Or to change the landscape after removing the textures?
