How has your character changed?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 9:21 pm

My character started out as a Female Nord battlemage who used destruction and a war axe with heavy armor and restoration. But has changed a lot since I first started her. Around level 20 or so while in combat and out of magicka she switched to a shield and axe and has put quite a few perks into it. But now at level 32 she has decided that she wants to learn how to dual wield her ebony war axes once she's out of magicka and use the shield when she comes up against a strong enemy.

Her current strategy is to throw up a flame cloak and then brings out her war axes

I probably started 10 or more different characters of different races and skillsets since I got the game. Most were sneak-based and I only used a mage once (didn't like it). I have now settled for a Bosmer ranger. Investing mainly in archery, sneak and light armor. When enemies get close I beat them into submission with my bare hands (got fisits of steel perk and heavy gauntlets with fortify unarmed). I really like it and probably won't change but your character certanily developed in an interesting manner.

I thought I was going to make a bunch of characters, each specializing in a few skills. But I have realized that I have very little desire to redo quests and dungeons with new characters, so I've come around to the "have one character do everything" school. I have a Bosmer that I started as a sneaky archer, but around level 20 I converted her to 1H/shield (1H skill was already high). At around level 30, after getting too many cool swords, I started dual wielding for fun and profit. However, at level 36 I've taken her full circle and am back to sneaky archery almost exclusively. She also does all three crafts. She's not really great at anything, but I have fun with her. What she svcks at is magic, because I never put any level up stat increases into it. So I do have a magic-oriented character also, a spellsword. Mostly to do the College quests, which my other one isn't doing. I could change her either way, to pure mage or pure warrior. I do like that the game allows you to change you mind drastically this way, even if you wind up with a character who's slightly gimped in one area.

Heres something that might be fun if you don't want to redo quests. Make a new character, and try doing quests in a different part of the world or join a different faction/guild. (This is assuming you haven't done most of that stuff already)

I'm happy with this.

Started off being a ranger, using pure archery. Once I joined the TG, I became heavily dependent on sneak and pickpocketing, so I became a thief. Once I joined the dark brotherhood at lvl 35 or so, I started using daggers and focusing on one handed and illusion, and so became an assassin. Hence, that's how my character turned out to become a Thief/Assassin hybrid (never originally had intentions of stealing, using illusion magic and using daggers when I made this character).

Skills: Not much has changed. Two-handed Swords, Archery, Heavy Armor, Smithing...later added some Enchanting after I found some cool Staves.

Factions: Supported Stormcloaks at first, later joined the Imperials.

Appearance etc: At first my Argonian was very serious and mean looking with red warpaint. Later I wanted him to be more friendly and funny looking. I changed his face to friendly looking and orange, removed warpaint. Also I modded the character fatter and gave him slower movement speed. Now he's a funny tanky character, just the kind of character I want to play.

Had no intention of smithing whatsoever. Then I got transmute ore. Then I did some smithing. Then at level 51 I had a smithing of 100 and 6 perks, even though my character is unarmoured most of the time. Out of character? Spammed? No, mostly elven items and jewelry.

My Nord is primarily a warrior, who uses sword+shield and archery, with alchemy for healing.

Not much has changed over these 75 hours and 43 levels, though I plan to visit Winterhold once he's done everything in Whiterun, and work on magic.

In the end, he'll either be more of a spellsword or remain a warrior. I plan to get him up to lv 81 eventually, so I'm leaving everything up in the air. If my warrior wakes up one day and decides that he'll go raid a dungeon in robes with spells, then so be it.

It would be nice if Bethesda added an option for people to change things like hair color/style, warpaint and etc. (without mods or console commands). I'm not asking for plastic surgery, but surely they have heard of scissors in Skyrim.

I had a basic idea in the beginning of what I wanted to do, and that was to make an assassin sneaky type of character. However at the moment she is more like a Thief then assassin. Dualwielding weapons have Illusion spell school and uses a mix of Bow and dualwielded weapons in combat. Illusion is there for some spells and that it fits the character concept. Eventually I will finish the thief guild quest lines and become a full blown nightingale and play her as that. Have taken 2 perks in smithing to be able to upgrade magic armors etc. One handed has the dual wield perks and the special attack perks, archery not taken any perks in yet, Light armor have 3 perks so far but plan to put more in this. This character I will level all the way to 81, and will keep in line with the plan for the "class" not going to make this as a Jack of all trade character as I have used to do in previous games.

But before I got to this point I burnt through 3 other characters..
1) Sneaky Barbarian/Thief used 2 handed weapons and was sacced due to at levels around 40 his limitations become worse and worse due to misplaced perks etc.
2) Assassin specialized in dualwielding/archery no magic, except enchanting, stopped playing him at 44 as the game stopped being fun when I realized how OP alchemy/enchanting/smithing was combined. It simply wasn't a challenge anymore.
3) Assassins specialized in only melee weapons, but stopped him at 25 as he was too weak against things that simply wouldn't land... Some kind of ranged was needed so decided to remake him into the one I play today. Also didn't like the race that much played Dunmer at that character.

Until she was lvl 15, Rosa used Two-handed, after that, I was able to find her decent One-handed weapons, and she switched permanently to One-handed.
Also, she has been using much less spells lately, especially Destruction. I just don't see her as a mage, even though she is the Archmage of Winterhold (she went through the whole questline using nothing but her One-handed weapons, unless she had to).
Conjuration is the only class of magic she's currently using. (if we assume Enchanting doesn't count as magic... even though it does)
Also, she wore Heavy Armor for a few levels in the beginning, before I improved her Light Armor, which she also switched to permanently.
I think experimenting is the best way to find what suits the character, if we haven't thought of an actual "class" yet.

I started early on with a female nord ranger with a little magic, sneak, alchemy, etc... Got to lvl 43 and realized my "go everywhere, do everything" approach left me somewhat disconnected from the more RP elements of the game.

Started an Orc, 2H, conjuration, light armor wearing only fur/leather types, and not sure what else...at level 5 the game is reborn for me. Seeking out Falkreath as a potential home because of its basic appearance. Also going to do the companions quest line and maybe DB....but that's it.

I think I needed that first play thru to really understand how to play the game more enjoyably.
