I just got my 360 slim NEW a few days ago, maybe a week, runs great, only thing is today I just put in RDR Undead Nightmare and the disk was accually hot as soon as I TOOK it out but it was only in there for about.....idk like maybe 10mins or less O__O it was not MP

Does that mean I need to ventulate it more? Should I post pics on how it looks to show everyone if that helps??

I had the exact same problem. I had the old model since 08 and I recently upgraded. I played Oblivion for like 10 minutes (installed to HD) and the console was ridiculously hot already (it never got this hot, this quickly with the old model). I really haven't questioned it and have just kept playing. :brokencomputer:

I would imagine the disk could get pretty warm after ten minutes. How much stuff do you have around it? You need a minimum of 10" clearance, if not more if you want it to cool properly. That goes for any piece of electronics that generate a good amount of heat.

I keep my Xbox slim running horozontally so it doesn't tip over. That might make for less air flow cause mine gets real hot at the top. I would recommend placing a small fan at the top (I use this one http://images.buzzillions.com/images_products/01/25/caframo-chinook-ac-fan-7-white_9543364_175.jpg) And letting the air blow through the vents.

They run hot, mostly due to the larger side vents. My old one ran just as hot on the back, the difference being that the slim can actually vent the air out.

Slims seem to run hot. Got mine a few months ago and it seems to just be how it gets. I have had months with no problems, so I wouldn't be too worried. Then again, I went with a warranty, so if anything happens, I am covered either way.

Ya just worried it will die I mean i got this right when my elite started to die and its odd how it over heats when it has that many fans (assuming the two on the sides and top are fans) and since its slim MS said it Wouldn't over heat right? Yet its super hot, I THINK when i was watching a movie today tho for a good hour it did not over heat as much

I've seen a lot worse setups.

It should be fine there, but If you have the ability, put it on top, like you have your PS3. Once the surrounding shelving gets warm, it creates a hotbox effect which isn't going to do it any favors. But again, it's not enclosed, so it should be getting enough cool air there.

Place it in the vertical position. It gets better ventilation from this. Also there is not enough room for it to get proper air flow in that tiny compartment.

How would placing it Vertical make it better? I am worried it would fall over besides there is no fan on the bottom and if I do this I think it would be blocking one fan right?

I do not really remember but I just heard that vertical is better for ventilation. But if you stick it in the horizontal position on the top, it should be fine.

I'm not sure if I'm correct, but I believe the original model had vents on both sides, while the slim has a vent on one side. If that is the case, then laying the slim on it's side wouldn't hurt the ventilation.

Put the Xbox where the PS3 is for better ventalation, stand it up as well and you might see an improvement with the temperture.

Horizontally seems like the only way to go IMO. The Xbox 360 S only has one fan and it's on the heatsink, located directly below an exhaust vent on the top of the console. Seeing as hot air rises, I can only assume that any excess heat would simply flow naturally out of this vent, where as if it were vertical said excess would have to travel up and around the cramped DVD drive, possibly being trapped along the way.

I've got mine laying down horizontally next to my TV. It gets hot on the top sure, but I figure that's because the fan is doing its job properly and venting the heat out instead of keeping it inside the console.
I can't really remember if my disks get hot though, I usually just switch off when I'm finished with the game and leave the disk in.

Looks like I've got an excuse to go play on it for a few hours now though, I'll check if the disk gets hot :thumbsup:

idk ill try and see when I get the Zoom for kinect and see it if works better where the Slim is now than change it, if it works great or better than it would in the middle on top *right under TV* than I'll see what I want to do, no way in hell do I want anything to over heat again
