There's gold everywhere in the game. It couldn't be easier. Draugr crypts seem to have the most treasure, in my experience.

Sell stuff to merchants. In particular, you can make potions for sale... even if you don't place perks in alchemy. You can get free ingredients all over the place, if you just give up on fast travel. You can enchant items, even without a single perk in enchanting. You can smith without smithing.

Even if you give up on all crafts, you can still make money selling items found in dungeons or in the wild. It all comes down to selling stuff to merchants.

1. Find dungeon.
2. Kill everyone and loot bodies.
3. ?????
4. Profit.

One of my characters going for 200,000 even though all I pick up now is gold. Finished selling stuff.

Good luck.

PS: You can also smith stuff - weapons/armor/jewelry you find - upgrade and then sell what you don't use

1- Create an imperial character at beginning (always gets xtra gold from treasure)
2- There is a perk that increases treasure (from lockpick tree?....)
3- Creat an imperial / thief character at beginning and concentrate on sneaking / pickpocket.
4- Roleplay your guy to be good or bad.....(My favorite is a robin hood type who only steals from bad people).
5- Travel a lot and sneak around purposely looking for bad people / or "trouble"
6- Go to thieves guild after visiting whiterun and before Dragons' quest start.
7- Invest in Merchantile / speech skill.
8- Don't forget to pick the herbs in the wild and alchemy skill....there are some difficult potions to make that sell for upwards of 4,000 gold apiece.
9- Have fun

blacksmithing jewelry can be very profitable. The transmute spell helps with this a lot as every iron vein you find is effectively silver and/or gold. Plus, you'll find the occasional gem to place in the jewely. It also levels up your smithing.

Or......
(There are many roleplay starting characters that aren't "overpowered")

Start a warrior / Breton who is pissed off at the Imperial legion.

1- 2-handed axes
2- Smithing (awesome at making money)
3- Scared of magic (no magic / no enchanting / no alchemy (what?!)
4- Cooking to stay alive only.
5- Get your stamina up FIRST!! This allows you to really carry more than most characters....
6- You can keep your health relatively low at first, and work it later.
7- Stay in Whiterun , and make companion questline, and do all quests you can do near the city.
8- Clear all the dungeons near Whiterun.....sell, work on Smithing. / Archery.

Have fun.

Spoiler
Make potions. You can even just fast travel between the potion vendors to buy up ingredients and make huge profits. You really are only limited by the coin the vendors have available. So to fix that either get high speechcraft or do the thieves quests for extra vendors that have large amounts of gold.

Enchant your primary weapon with soul trap, and buy all the empty petty and lesser soul gems you see from mage and general store vendors. Every once in a while, take a look in your inventory, if you've amassed a bunch of filled soul gems, buy a bunch of iron ingots and leather straps and make iron daggers. Enchant the daggers with the most valuable enchantment you have and all those (largely useless) petty and lesser soul gems. I also tend to buy filled grand soul gems if a vendor doesn't have enough money to buy what I'm selling. They're extremely useful for enchanting gear to keep or give to a follower.

Alchemy is pure profit, but its hard to find places to offload everything you produce (I always end up with a ton of high value, useless potions and nowhere to sell them.) Picking all the snowberries, mountain flowers, and thistles you see will let you craft tons of elemental resistance potions that are both useful and a good source of $$$.
