How to make a merchant respawn only certain items?

Post » Sat May 28, 2011 2:21 am

I have a group of items I want a certain merchant to carry.

When the game starts (mod first enabled), I want several unique weapons to be dumped into his inventory.

I want those weapons to stay with him forever until the player buys them, then I want them gone forever.

I want the remainder of his non-unique inventory to respawn every 3 days as normal.

I figure this will need some scripting and maybe a controller quest, but I have no idea how to proceed at this point.

Anyone got any thoughts on this situation?

I've never done merchants, so I'm probably waaaaay off, but maybe give him two inventory containers, one that respawns and one that doesn't?

Two container's isn't doable, but I MIGHT be able to tweak him into selling anyting marked as his property..although in FO3 that meant he would sell the clothes off his own back. Hmm...*puts on mad scientist hat*.

Speaking of mad science..Esrafael, hit me back in a PM will ya?

You MIGHT want to anolyze the way Sergeant Contreras at McCarran is programmed, I know he sells you NCR Armor once and when you buy it from him he never sells it again, it's in a container, but these unique weapons, possibly place them in a safe outside the map and set the safe as nonrespawning?

Is there anyone out there good at scripting interaction (and forced, scripted combat) between two npc's?

I'd like to get someone to help set up a gunfight between two guys, have them both talk trash, walk toward each other to 40 paces, stop, draw and fire...and both fall over dead :D

One would have the Rose, the other would have the Regulator.

If someone can help do this...it could open the way to things like full on scripted bar fights heh

Today, I am not good at this type of scripted interaction. But, I have a few different pieces of the puzzle, and the quest mod I am working on has gotten to the point where this is the last item left. I will see what I can figure out in the next couple of days and let you know. Of course, if anybody already knows and can tell both of us, that's even better.

One needs to be a ranger, the other named Texas Red.

...for the stranger there among them had a big iron on his hip

For the original problem, I think I have a simple solution. Just give him the average inventory that respawns, WITHOUT the unique items. Then give him a top-level dialog choice like "I heard you sell some unique guns?" and then have it lead to choices of the guns where he tells you about them, and how much he charges for them. Then once you buy them the choice goes away, and once you buy all of the unique items, the choice to ask about them all-together goes away as well.

I'll look into that, Gunmaster. thanks :)
