How do I make this game fun again?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 6:50 am

It feels like I just can't sit down and play this game anymore. I get bored too fast and I only last maybe 30 minutes before I stop playing. Are there any good ways to spice up the game a bit?

For me, it's easy to get svcked into finishing quests and popping here or there. Whenever I find myself in a rut, I turn off the UI and hit thr road.

I walked from Windhelm to Solitude last time and even stopped at an inn or two for the night. I stumbled across a dungeon or two, fought an invisible dragon (glitch), and had a rough fight with a few bandits on the road.

Why must you like it? Does not life provide you with enough other options to do if you find one activity tedious and boring?

It doesn′t take a zen-buddhist to figure out that if you are repeating the same activity over and over again that you don′t enjoy and that you don′t have to do, you are doing something wrong.

You can always not allow yourself to play it for a week. When the week is over you will probably have had a couple of withdrawals though.

Take off all your clothes, strip yourself of all weapons and magical artifacts, and streak from Riften to Solitude. :)

The best thing about Skyrim is just loafing around and taking time to explore, talk to NPCs, and reading books. I don't bother with quests most of the time anymore.

And like Top killa said, download some mods to spice up the game.

Suffer from amnesia, it'll feel like a totally new experience!

But seriously... Have a break until DLC perhaps?

Maybe you're just getting burnt out? Take a break, play something else, then come back when you're feeling the itch.

If you think Skyrim is boring then why do you want to play it? If you can answer this question then Skyrim must not be boring. Why did you ever want to play it in the first place??

A OP/thread that asks the inevitable question of Skyrim.

Todd Howard will answer you in the next Elder Scroll, if there is one. Then we'll see if requests for more character build and NPC interaction matter or they are disgarded for the current target buyer. It is this lack, this reduction of player choices that lead to the, 'why should I play Skyrim?" It's not you, not your lack of imagination, not the food you ate for breakfast.

I don't know what will happen- but I too look for reasons to play. I've just begun to memorize the area/locations and already I'm quiting- in an Elder Scrolls game?

Dead Is Dead!!!!

WHH (Whatever Happens, Happens) No reloads because you didn't like the outcome. If your companion dies, they die. If you are caught pick-pocketing, so-be-it.

Find the DiD threads and read them. :)

I get the "itch" to play Skyrim, but then when I start playing, I don't really want to play anymore, or the "itch" is gone.

Why does the itch leave you? Is it because you know what's in every location and chest? Have you tried paying no attention to the quests and making up your own goals? Have you tried walking around the perimeter of Skyrim?

Start making mods. It's like a game in-itself. You can change things that you find boring.

I have about 200 mods installed (manually pick and choose parts, in most cases), and I make my own as well.

-go to Dragonsreach to discuss the ongoing hostilities, like the rest of the great warriors

Just take a break from it for a week or two. I hardly played in December and I have just come back to it these past couple of days and I'm addicted again!

I asked myself the OP's question for a whole month. I concluded that as I'm on PC, I'll need to wait for some of the better, grander overhaul mods to try to make the game fun.

Can always give yourself goals. Make it your mission to discover all the bugs in a jar. Try to make one of every type of potion and decorate your house with them. Have a complete weapon set of each type. Explore all the houses in all the holds. Kill every killable npc in the game. Etc Etc.
