I'm wondering if there is a way, on the 360, to make your husband/wife wear what you want them to wear.

I found YouTube videos showing one way, but it appears to only work if your spouse is a merchant. In that case, you basically give them something better, they equip it, then you go into merchant mode and buy off their original equipment...leaving them only with the gear you've given them.

Of course, the problem is that not all marriage partners are merchants.

You can, naturally, get them to wear anything so long as it's better than their stock equipment, but when it comes to clothing, it has an armor rating of zero.

Is there a way around this? Can clothing be enchanted with a high enough armor rating to replace base equipped armor on a spouse?

Nope, armor rating can't be applied to clothing by enchanting, or by any other means, meaning your spouse will only equip actual armor (given it has a high enough rating).

Someone suggested elsewhere that the pickpocket perk of Perfect Touch (100) allows you to remove equipped items. Allowing you to remove their base gear from inventory.

Anyone try that? If it works, you could pickpocket the offending gear and leave them with what you want them to have.

on the PS3 I did this and it didn't work I pickpocketed her dress and reverse pickpocket placed a tavern dress. The wife I have doesn't wear armor and is not a follower so I thought this would work. I played an easy whole ingame month and she STILL walked around in her underwear... which mind you would not be so bad if it didn't look like it was made from a potato sack.

She did however wear the ebony dagger I placed in her inventory after I took her pickaxe.

I've never tried enchanting clothing to get a spouse to wear it, I don't even know if this would work or is possible. But what about enchanting clothing with a speech enchant? It would make sense that a merchant would want improved speech, which is probably why it wouldn't work.
