How many companions can we take along? : Fallout: New Vegas

So far I had rex join me when I had Boone so I got 2 companions following me. Is there a limit?

The limit is one humanoid and one non-humanoid.

Dude, it is right in the directions. You are allowed 1 non-humanoid ( robot etc) and 1 humanoid companion.
