How many Guilds & Factions can we join?

Does joining certain Guild/Faction completely prevent you from joining another Guild/Faction?

So far I've known there are 2 Factions: The Imperial & The Stormcloak.
Does doing a Quest for 1 of them automatically make me part of that Faction and so is unable to talk/join/do Quests for another Faction?

Also for Guilds which include: The Companions, Dark Brotherhood, Thieves Guild, Winterhold College People, Vampire People, & Wolf Gang.
Can we join them all?
Will other Guilds know if I've joined one Guild?
Do these Guilds have any beef with one another?
If I join a Guild and don't like it can I leave the Guild with no Unfinished Quests hanging around in my Quest Logs?

23 Hours into the game and my Warrior has yet to join/do Quests for any Guild/Faction because of this..
Thank you

For the civil war questline you have to choose one side or the other. You can still enter all the cities even if you side with their enemy. For the Guilds you can do them all in one playthrough. I don't think the other guild members will acknowledge you as part of another guild. They don't have any rivalry between them though in one quest in the Thieves Guild they mention that DB and them have an understanding. After you join you can't leave though them and quests you receive stay in the journal till you complete them. Also there is no Vampire faction and the Wolf gang and the Companions are one in the same.

Vampire People, & Wolf Gang where do you find these?

The wolfs aren't those the Companions? You can also join the blades.
And I'm not sure about the followers of tanger? The ones that hunt deadra.

Thank you for the answer guys.
I've just got another question:
Are Battle-borns & Grey-Manes directly related to Imperial & Stormcloak Factions? or are they just Guilds? I'm reluctant to even speak to any of them because I'm afraid by doing Quests for them I might unknowingly join Imperial/Stormcloak Faction. Will this happen if I do some Quests for Battle-born/Grey-Mane?

I've yet to encounter any of them on my travels so I originally thought both Vampires & Werewolves live in pack with their kins like in the Movie http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Twilight_Saga_%28film_series%29, lol.

Doing stuff for those families wont affect the factions.

You can join as many as you like (with the exception of the Imperial/Stormcloak), they dont affect each other in any major way.

No. Do what you want. I done that once in Oblivion to see they are like. Next time I played it I stuck to one or two. Depends what happened in the game.

For I in this game wolf gang sorry I thinking out load I joined Vampire people what I going off course. What I was going to type, Oh yes, for I in this game I joined in two. Imperials and companions.

The Imperial General don't care what you do but he dose care about the Dark Brotherhood (I think there is a Dark Brotherhood quest to kill a fake king which he is the emperor of the imperials legion. I think)
