Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 2:25 am

Another Crafting = Exploiting thread in disguise. Nothing to see here.

Yeah, this is another thread where the author seemingly thinks everyone plays the PC version of the game even though it accounts for less than 20% of the game's players judging by the game's sales figures.

Seems like if my goal were to just exploit the game mechanics for my own benefit, I could save a lot of time and perk points by just using the CK.

There is no cap on construction kit gear. You could make a 200ft long sword sword that has a 16km AoE that kills everything that's not an ally, including plot NPC's and makes you immortal for 9001 years an d lets you fly by pointing it in a direction you desire, and applies a time-stop effect while drawn if you wanted.

For that matter you could just use the console to win the game and make yourself a god. just because it's there, it doesn't mean everyone abuses it.

I would want a Super Mega Ginormous Soul Gem to go with that. One clean sweep on the throat of the world and all the souls of skyrim would be mine :woot:

Then you'd dis-enchant the sword, and use the tamriel-gem to make an even bigger sword amirite?

Hmm ... it's your game, break it any way you want. It won't be messing me up.

This ^ makes it easier for a hasty retreat when neccessary (too many stand up at once). Also, frost does stamina damage, reducing the number of physical power attacks. Does that not apply to Draugr?

It does but there are far more effective means by which to beat a hasty retreat. Ice Form shout with good timing and placement can CC [crowd control] entire rooms at a time with a single shout not too mention a good old Fus Ro Dah works wonders when you funnel your enemies into a door way and get them all at once. Illusion calm/fear spells and Alteration Paralyze spells are also equally as effective not to mention illusion also gives you abilities like muffle/invisibility which can save you from extremely bad situations.

Ice spells are only really good at slowing enemies down if you know how to combine Wall of Ice with Ice Storm.

Ever think "if it doesn't apply to them, they'll just ignore it?" I did that here, and to be honest I am surprised at the amount of hate flowing out of some of the posters in this thread. I asked the question to find out if anyone thought like I do where I find crafting to be a waste of time/perks if I can use the CK to add equivalent gear. Not to add "kill everything, make me unstoppable" gear, but add a bow that has a slightly higher damage than regular bows of that kind. And God forbid I try to RP that one of the smiths already in the game has a little more skill and his armor works a little better than others.

Given the amount of flames coming out of this board, I think it'd be best to just let this thread die.

I'm trying to stick to an RP version of a Bosmer. Bow 99% of the time, even at close range, then dagger/restore when that starts to fail. I had very few shouts when I was doing this. Once I got my enchantments up to frost, and my smithing up to elven, I was able to make an Elven dagger that was pretty effective, but not OP. My bow is definately OP now. Thanks for the advice, though. It sounds like health drain would be more effective than frost, I'll have to make a new blade now...

Hahaha... you edited your original post. Whatever, dude... it's all good. This is all just ones and zeroes running through wires -- no hate here. :)

Why are you insinuating all players are on the PC? The majority of players are on consoles, over 70%.

Removed the poll because it did not inspire any friendly conversation like I was looking for, only hate. Everything else stands as originally written.

Not once in any of my posts did I say anything about people playing consoles, so I'm not sure where you're getting this. It was never a question for "all Skyrim players," it was a question for people who can use the CK. If you can't use the CK, then the question is pretty irrelevant now isn't it?

The CK is no replacement for crafting. Plus I have no interest in god items - either crafted or made in a mod.

If anything I am looking forward to some mods that place restraints on the crafting system and make it better. As it is crafting is not that overpowered if you simply do not use any + fortify smith/enchant/alchemy gear/potions. Which is what I do.

I've read a lot how grinding smithing and enchanting can lead you to have OP items, but I'm curious who is doing it for fun and who is doing it just for the power. When the CK comes out, you'll be able to implant your own items into the game. To me this means that grinding smithing and enchanting is going to be a waste of time unless you're doing it for RP reasons, or are trying not to "cheat". So what I'd like to ask you all is, once the CK is out will you continue to use smithing and enchanting to build your gear, or take the short-cut and do it in the CK then just add it to your character via console?

Seems like if my goal were to just exploit the game mechanics for my own benefit, I could save a lot of time and perk points by just using the CK.

Sigh.

Really, dude? They put smithing and enchanting in the game. If they didn't want to make it possible to stack them to make really awesome gear, they wouldn't have bothered to put those features in the game in the first place. Using the game mechanics to build a powerful character isn't cheating. On the other hand, using the console or creation kit to make an item that has 1,000,000 in all stats is definitely cheating.

If I use the CK, it will be to fix bugged items, like the gear you can't improve with smithing.

I don't think crafting will go away with the CK. Smithig will still allow you to Improve that tweaked weapon you just created. Enchanting will allow you to customize your gear to your gameplay style. You can never have too many Healing Potions, and Fortify Destruction potions aren't something you can get tons of without Alchemy. It's an interesting question, but the CK will just allow for tweaking; it won't make anything obsolete.

As for the thread-hate... yes, some people need to chill out. Also, quoting numbers like 20% or 70% is useless... Valve doesn't release their digital sales numbers.

I will use modded items for looks only. My policy would be that any item I wear can only be as exactly as strong as I can make or find in the original game. This means most items will be modded in their base form unenchanted.

You can DL mods for this kind of thing right now... check the Skyrim Nexus site, there are hundreds of mods out already. For example, my female mage character is wearing sleeveless unenchanted Nocturnal Robes that I crafted for her at a blacksmith forge. There are 34 different color/design combinations within that one mod alone -- pick one, install it, and go find some leather to make it in-game. :)

I will. I like the idea of being a powerful mage and creating items that will be used again and again through the ages to come.

Thanks I will check it out. I won't actually use them yet. Just start collecting maybe.

I normally merge/steal nif files into my personal mod so I can buy from a personalized shop in my own little modded town in Oblivion. I intent to do the same in Skyrim.

You can already do that with the console. So I'd say your title-question is answered pretty soundly with a "all of them", at least in regards to PC players.
Even if it makes things much easier, Its a pretty meaningful point to most players that their character made the gear used to kill all those monsters so easily.

I have been limiting my crafting to only one of the three crafting skills: Smithing for my warrior, Enchanting for my mage and Alchemy for my assassin. Using smithing + enchanting + alchemy results in becoming a bit overpowered IMO.

Like a great man once said "I just have a pile of junk and a dream" to building a house made from scraqes.

I have my own smaller dream of hiring a legion of Legendary Maxed-Armour Maxed-Magic-Resist dragonbone-cladded Stormcloak/trooper and march them towards Summerset Isle. It would be impossible without smith/enchant.

PS: I have already collected over 300 dragon bones and scales.

There are limits to what I'm willing to mess about with. I really dislike alchemy. I'm not at all fond of smithing. Enchanting I enjoy. So.... CK comes out, I'll be doing enchanting without it and anything involving the others with it. maschism is NOT my idea of fun - in a game or elsewhere.

Actually no. I am genuinely interested in knowing if people will continue to do it because making stuff is interesting, or if they just want the best equipment. If they just want the best equipment, I imagine it would be much simpler to do via CK.

A good question and a valid one. But apparently you're a troll. Welcome to the Internets.
