I like to roleplay.

My new character, after Dragon Rising (killing first dragon, getting shout) would go and join the Stormcloaks and, being dedicated, would complete the whole questline before doing anything else in the game.

I worry that I will miss a lot of cool quests/stories from the other Jarls (I have yet to visit all the Holds in my playthroughs..... so the only Jarls I've talked to are Whiterun, Windhelm and Solitude in other playthroughs) and I don't want to do that on some levels.

Anyone have a sense of how many quests/tasks I'll miss out on? Especially any big side quests?

I like the idea of immediately freeing Skyrim for the Nords but worry it will break/cut off lots of the game.

Go do quests in markarth before doing the storm cloak quests. I had the city guards bug out on me after a certain quest line and replacing the guards after the storm cloaks took over fixed it for me.

You have to do the first part of the main quest (find the dragon stone, kill the dragon at the watch tower) before you can get very far on the civil war questlines.

You should also do The Forsworn Conspiracy in Markath as mentioned, and Blood on the Ice in Windhelm. The further you get on a playthrough, the more likely those quests are to bug.

I did the Stormcloaks line right off the bat and it didn't break anything. I did it before I did anything in Markarth, and had to do some of the main questline to advance it, but other than that the game progressed normally.

This question is similar to mine but not completely, for me I am thinking about going with the Legion but I would like to know if there is a list of all the quests that breaks/glitch for each side of the civil war?

I know about the not being able to buy the house in Whiterun if you pick the Stormcloak side
