How many saves do you have?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:54 am

So, New Vegas has been out for a while, and most of us have been playing it a bit. During play time, some people make a lot of saves, and some rarely save. How often do you save and how many saves do you have as of now?

As for me, I have about 100 hours of game time, and my save number is about 1200. Playing Oblivion and Fallout 3 taught me valuable lessons when it came to Bethesda's engine.

I have 152 hours logged and I have an Autosave, a Quicksave (which I use frequently) and two hard saves (one is a "just in case" save, the other is a "if I wanna go back" save).

Just passed 500 for this run and I'm about 65 hours in to the current game (7.7 saves per hour... yay for Bethesda's engine).

I have 8, played around 65 hours in two different playthroughs, and some on the same playthrough but choosing a different side. i just resave in the same file most of the time, when the time comes i make a new one. I was never a person to save in a different file all the time.

You could use more hard saves. Just saying.

I had around 100 hard saves before I culled them and started my cheat char.

I have 5 saves that I keep copying over, I save all the time. I learned the hard way in FO3 when auto save got corrupted and I lost 16hrs of work.

12 hard saves with this character but only two hours into the game, with all auto saves turned off.

Hey FTW, good to see you're still around...first post I've seen from you on this forum.

567 saves. I always use a clean save (and it cut down my glitch count). I always save after doing something half decent, I always save after buying something, I always save if it stutters, or the colour changes (went electric blue on me last night, followed by a sepia wash when I left the building I was in), or it does something that indicates it's going to die/fail/freeze/crash etc.

In other words, I save roughly every 20 minutes.

My save number have sky rocketed for a while now.

I make about 7 save per character, call me paranoid but they eventually pay off.

I saved around 250 times for a 60 hour playthrough. I also have 15 hard saves, some as far apart as 30 hours.

You rely on autosaves and quicksaves in a Bethesda (engine) game, you're crazy

I have about 50-60 saves. However I've saved well over that, probably a couple thousand times. I just overwrite my saves periodically.

I only ever play one character at a time. So that involves 1 Hard save, a quicksave and the autosave.

Ive been doing it since Morrowind and its still working (mosty) fine for me.

Same here. I nearly got 500 saves during my first playthrough. And I was constantly, constantly making use of the Quicksave button.

I have 4 and about 120 hours among them

1 is a Goodsprings save so I can easily make a new char without the intro
2 is my first char
3 is my second
4 is an alt save slot

You're going to be a very sad munchkin once one of those becomes unusable due to a bug. At a minimum, keeping the last half dozen saves per character is a safe number, and better if you have > 12-24 for a particular character.

I'd guess 60-70+ hard saves at over 130 hours this game. I was hoping we'd have a thread about Saves as I'd like to hear other techniques for Skillful Saving. We've been having some posts where people have lost their game because they only had one Save or messed up their saves, etc. :(

The ONLY AutoSave I have is on Wait because I almost never use it.. My technique is to save very often...you have to when a game is known for freezing but it's a good idea anyway. If I'm entering a new situation, I'll make a new Save. If I'm entering an important conversation, I might make a new Save. I'll have a stretch of 5 Saves sometimes for a quest if I want to manage how it goes; then I can re-enter at a chosen point if I wasn't happy. And then, because there are only so many Saves allowed, I'll scroll backwards to an earlier Save in the game and save on top of a Save I'll never use again. This is on PS3.

Save Often For Sanity :)
