So I've set all my skills to 1, but I am having trouble removing the starter Flames spell. I looked on UESP wiki but the hex code listed for the Flames spell brought up an error when I tried to remove it in the console. So is it possible to remove it?

There's a mod on the Nexus that removes the two starter spells. I used that for a while, too.

Also, set the skills to 0 instead of 1. That way, you can pretend that there's a reason why the first skill level up takes so much longer than the next few ones.

I'm playing my character as a guy who woke up in skyrim penniless and hungover, with vague memories of drinking and gambling, and no idea who he is besides his name and race, so I am cheating slightly and letting him have his racial skills at 5 and 10 respectively. I will look for the mod that removes the spells, though, Thanks.

I think Lytha was probably talking about the 15 across-the-board skills we start with, not the racial bonuses. But I could be mistaken...

I think the idea is to start with absolutely nothing, except something suitable covering your modesty. Besides I am wary of putting skills to 0, in case it breaks the game.
