How do I reorder my mods?

Post » Fri May 27, 2011 9:10 am

I'm trying to play NV with some of the newly released mods. Problem is, they're all out of order. Any time, in the data files part of the launcher, a mod is ABOVE FNV, NV crashes.

How do I reorder mods without a 3rd party program?

I've seen it by altering the dates on a file. Not sure how you'd do that without a 3rd party program.

Wish I could remember where the order was saved.

It is done by dates.

You'll have to change the dates on the files so that they the mods are dated either the latest or the most current.

Sorry to be the one to not get it. <.<

But is using the GECK the only way to modify the time? If so, how do I edit the date of another esm without modifying the date of the original Fallout: NV .esm? Whenever I try to open+Save, to change the date, the Fallout: NV.esm just moves a little with the other .esm, staying below it and still causing my game to crash. x_x

You can use http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/bulk_file_changer.html to change the file date and time. It is Freeware. NirSoft is an excellent and trusted website that has many useful utilities.

IMPORTANT: Run the utility in Admin mode.Particularly when using Vista or Win 7.

[EDIT] I believe you only need to change the "Date Modified" date/time.

Files load in order of file date/time.

Earliest (oldest) dated files load first.

The .esm files (masters) always load before .esp files (MODs).

To make a file load after another file, give it a date/time that is later (newer).

The date on two or more files can be the same, if the date is the same then the time needs to be different to determine the file load order. The usual practice is to use the same date and increment the minutes for each file time.

It is best to have MOD file dates/times that are all later (newer) than the FalloutNV.esm file.

Or you can wait a couple of days for FOMM for FNV to be released.

I *think* you can just go to C:\Users\Administrator\AppData\Local\FalloutNV (that mine, yours may vary) and open the plugins.txt and re-order manually. The Data Files option from the launcher shows files alphabetically so you won't see any changes there.

Run the utility in Admin mode.

It's working for me in Win 7 Pro x64.

Also at NirSoft is the old "FileDate Change" utility which also works but only changes one file at a time.

You could try this out http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=34969

The Load Order Sorting Tool. Its a little tricky to setup. Just remember to set up the apps ini file manually, as it seems to not save through the settings window right now.

Its worked for me so far. =)
