How to show the Dragon your presence?

Post » Tue Jun 19, 2012 8:27 pm

I recently had two dragons appear randomly and then circle around me killing foxes and then it kept circling around. I shot some arrows at it but the dragon just kept circling me and then vanished. How can I get the dragon to land and attack me so I can kill it?

Not all dragons will attack you. Not sure if this is intentional (I think it is) or just because they do not see you. Not all dragons are alerted to your presence, the game sometimes just puts them in there.

Now, as to how to get the dragon to notice you, the best way is to use a certain Shout, if you don't know that, then run across an open field or path until they notice you.

Some of the random dragons in the game can be glitched to where they won't attack, try some more and see if they come down.

Lightning Bolts are another good way to hit them.

Works for me too. Though sometimes, they simply just aren't interested. Don't worry, there will always be more

Just go with the flow. I was just south of Whiterun when a dragon was circling above, it never came down. It flew off.

Then... Later when I returned to Whiterun the gate guard told me he saw a dragon flying overhead earlier and it headed off to the North-East, and placed a marker on my map for the location of the dragon.

So I still believe some are scripted just to spy on you.

Not all dragons will attack you.
Normally you don't have to show him his presence, he will attack you on sight, they will occur as an red dot at your compass.
If you can't see a red dot, you can't reach them. (maybe with that certain shout you will learn in the MQ)

But don't waste arrows to hit them it's impossible.

If they're just circling around, I tend to ignore them. If I really want to be attacked, I just fast travel to the College. More often than not, there's one there waiting for me. Usually when it's least convenient.

You can scribble in the ground and put S.O.S or shout S.O.S...

The easiest way I've found is to conjure a flame atronach and have her cast auto-aim fireballs at them. Wish I had half her aim. :) If he flies away I re-cast the atronach. This, of course, assumes you have means to cast her.

In my experience not all dragons are outright hostile. I guess some of them are just "scouting". I really hope it's not a glitch because it makes dragon encounters a lot more interesting and a wee bit unpredictable (Is he going to attack? Should I hide my horse, crawl under a rock and cry like a little girl? Nah, he's just passing by... or is he?) and it would be a shame if it was "fixed".

So I passed another Dragon who I could have sworn looked like he would attack but he just circled me a couple of times and flew away. I moved on and right when I found a cave bam a dragon was attacking me. I agree that it definetly adds to the suspense and thrill of dragon hunting

It's so annoying when that happens, and weirdly it always happens with Ancient Dragons for me. A Frost Dragon will attack me almost immediately; an Ancient Dragon will just circle a few times and then fly away, even though I'm not hiding and I'm in a middle of a tundra jumping like a lemon.

Polar Bears are one of the only animals that hunt man. The tricky devils will walk away from you and let you think it is uninterested. But, what it is doing is circling around to get you from a different angle. The dragons in this game seem to do that. That is why I say to run down a path or across a field. If the beast wants to play, it will come find you.
