How to skip the intro

Post » Fri Jun 01, 2012 8:40 am

I just saw a thread about this, it was 4 pages of people complaining about not being able to, and postulating how to skip it on PC. I put in a reply, but 4 pages back not sure if anyone noticed, so here is how you do it. Apparently lots of people haven't figured it out...

There is a save, in your list of save games that says "Nord Prisoner, Level 1". That is the save that Bethesda so kindly created for you for just that purpose. That save is directly after you get out of the cart at the beginning.

I don't think that is what people are looking for. I think the ones complaining want another opportunity after escaping Helgen to review their character one last time, similar to how you could revise your character just before leaving the sewers in OB, allowing you to create a save there and load it any time you wanted to start a new character instead of having to do the escape every single time.

Yeah I noticed that on my last char I made and assumed that was how to skip the intro. I don't mind the intro though. Usually always multitasking anyways.

But what people are actually complaining about is having to do all of the cave tutorial after the character creation is complete and not being able to re-roll before leaving the cave.

The entire thread you mentioned was how to skip the tutorial dungeon - unless I'm more confused than you, I suppose

Well the amount of time it took you to make this thread you could go through the intro twice.

Cheers

Personally, I wear Ancient Nord armor, it's heavy, but has fur and leather bits and looks kind of raggedy, but I do wear light armor on my hands and feet. It's pretty manageable, I keep it upgraded okay with smithing :)

peoples problem is the whole tutorial sequence, oblivion had a character altering save right before existing the sewers, at the end of the tutorial and the beginning of the rest of the game. The equivalent in skyrim would be a character altering save right before existing the cave.

well there were a lot of people complaining about not being able to hit escape to get out of it, so I assumed they meant the wagon ride at the beginning. Maybe I was wrong

The bandwagon towards the character screen is like 1/4 of the ENTIRE introduction scene. All we want is a re-roll pop-up just before you exit back into Skyrim. We already figured this out and even then, the time saved won't matter.

I think that the people complaining about the introduction is the people that follow the journal instructions and the npcs. If you rush and go on your way directly, it could be completed extremely easy and fast, you don't need to wait for anyone.

It will only be really annoying if you reroll 3 characters per day, and that person already has issues.

That's not the issue most of us are complaining about. What's worse than the cart ride is the 'training dungeon' you have to go through after creating your character.

Furthermore, trying to avoid saving over that save they provided over dozens of hours of gameplay is more annoying than watching the cart ride again.

I never saw any intro movie - or 'training dungeon'.

Is there any way I can access these?

Yup, this is correct. That's what the post was about. In Oblivion, for example, we had the chance to review our 'build' before leaving the sewers.

In Skyrim, what the 'prisoner' save does is skip the whole cart cutscene, but once your 'prisoner' is created, that's it. If you want to try another race, you'd have to watch and play through the entire dragon attack in Helgen.

I thought I had put that there.

That's the one I've been using. Course that only saves us the cart ride. I really can't image any of my characters doing much different in the starter dungeon. Perhaps it's the fact that you have to choose who to follow (and that can make some small differences in Riverwood, etc.) that they didn't put another cc at the end of that dungeon.

That could be, but it doesn't justify such a poor decision. Personally, I don't care a fig whether I went in one door or the other. I want another chance to review my character's appearance.

All I can say is: thank the gods for alternate start mods, come February.

But that is because in the previous tutorials, you always started as a neutral participant. That does not make sense in civil war Skyrim, you must choose to help the Imperials or the Stormcloaks.

I also do not understand how this new system is really any different, stats are gone... you would only be reassigning like 20 HP/MP/STA and 2 perks.

I realized that on the first try. The moment you are free from your chains, you can rush but it's still annoying traversing the same area, over and over again. A simple re-roll option would have helped and probably is either an intentional move or a major oversight.
