How is Sony responsible?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 5:58 pm

I've been viewing this forums for a while, and I've noticed that a lot of people are blaming the PS3 and Sony whenever people say that it's Bethesda's fault that the PS3 version of Skyrim is not working. Correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I know, Sony did not help Bethesda develop Skyrim, and Bethesda is the one who decided to try to make Skyrim for the PS3 as well. Can someone explain this to me please?

Um. I haven't seen anyone call out Sony. Just Beth. But maybe I'm blind...

PS3 Doesn't have a large enough HDD to run the game, thats why you get lag and drop of frame rates. So in the end, it is the PS3's fault it cannot handle Skyrim.

I haven't heard a single person say that...

And the only way that Sony is responsible, is that they have to certify the patches before they can be released, effectively delaying patch release, which is why PC get's patches way earlier. (Same delay on 360 due to Microsoft)

I guess I can understand this for Ps3 users, but what I can't understand is if Bethesda knew this, why did they still try to make Skyrim compatible with the PS3?

Actually the issue is more that the game was made for the 360 and only ported over to PS3 and PC with no real optimizations for those platforms at all.

Many developers have said that the PS3 is alot harder to develop games on than the 360. Thats why most games have the 360 as the lead platform and you get crappy ports of games

And that is where Sony becomes responsible. If they certified a title for their console that does not run well on the platform, that is their fault. Sony isn't at fault for the things that are going wrong with Skyrim, but Sony is at fault for pushing Skyrim on the PS3 when it is not built well for it. If Beth was contracted to make Skyrim from the ground up for the PS3, much of this wouldn't be happening. Then again, if they did that then the experience between both consoles would not be uniform fue to concessions made for the PS3 version (the way it loads data).

False, the problem is faulty coding. The game was made for the 360, and was not properly coded for the PS3 or the PC.

Aaah I see. I understand that Bethesda knew that Skyrim wasn't going to be compatible with the PS3, but did Sony know as well? Has Sony said anything about this?

There is a similar issue with all their games on PS3 I traded my NV in for a pc version because the game would crash after the save file got so big. The more stuff you find and discover the worse it got. This is partly due to the PS3 ability to access the required info with its shared memory pool.

My ps3 has a 360gb hard drive with plenty of open space, I assure you hdd size is not the issue.

Partially this but more of a memory issue which that problem comes from Sony having faulty equipment. Part of it can be blamed on Beth but do you want them to be Blizzard and we have to wait 3 extra years for the game still to not be perfect.

There are people who blame the PS3's low RAM for Skyrim's problems. I wouldn't be surprised if RAM is the bottleneck, with half of it dedicated to graphics there is very little left to juggle everything else.

While I've seen a number of constructive discussions of this matter most people throwing the blame in this direction are being inflammatory or just flat out platform-bashing, neither of which are acceptable.
