how is there an emperor if there is no dragon bloodline?

Post » Fri Jun 22, 2012 7:17 pm

i JUST realised this after watching some oblivion quests online... if martin septim is dead then...there are no more emperors...right?

i swear back when i played oblivion that it was mentioned about how there couldn't be any more emperors now after urial and now the empire is doooomed but then we find martin and everything is awesome again but then he dies so why wasnt anyone saying we are doooomed after he died?

is it only the septims that can be emperors? was there some lost septim relative that had dragon blood? did martin have a little fling with a lusty argonian behind the priory stables?

how is it that there is an emperor seen in skyrim!? it doesnt make sense! lol

There is an Emperor because Titus Mede I seized control of the Empire and named himself as such.

As far as I know, the dragonblood was only needed to keep the dragon fire up to prevent the Daedra from entering Nirn ... but with Martins sacrifice this problem was solved.

whats going on!? haha

After Martin died. Ocato took power as Potentate for a few years trying to decide with the elder council on who should be the next emperor since the Septim line is gone. They never could come to a consensus. Ocato was assassinated by Thalmor and the elder council started a power struggle. Each wanting to be in control or fighting for someone. This period was known as the Stormcrown Interregnum. Eventually Mede I brought 1000 troops in, came into the palace and told them quite matter of factly, "I'm the new emperor". No one wanted to argue with 1000 armed men so Titus Mede became the new emperor.

So the Septim bloodline did end in Oblivion, but they still had to choose a new emperor. Basically that is why the empire had been dissolving, because it is no longer run by the septim dynasty. It's kind of the same as in real life: if you have a really awesome dynasty that is doing wonders for your empire, your not gonna abandon the empire because they die off, someone else is just gonna come into power.

Exactly, and this is why anybody can now be emperor. :)

well.... i couldnt blame them! i guess it was a pretty harsh way of seizing control but with all the bickering, i guess it had to be nesecary?

wow these events should have been like a quest! it sounds like it could make an amazing quest unfortunatly this wont happen but it would be a cracker lol

There can be Emperors who are not Dragonborn. There is no Septim Emperor on the Throne though, that's the distinction I think you're looking for.

The Septim line of Dragonborn Emperor's dies with Martin Septim. And thus the end of the Pact that Humanity had with Akatosh ended on that day as well.

There doesn't have to be a Septim on the throne for there to be an Emperor.

Yes we do but who wants to be the guy who sits on a throne all day surrounded by subjects who will do your ever whim instead of being adventuer who goes out and risk his/her life for loot that could be good or not.

Volumes 1 and 2 describe how the thalmor came into power in Summerset too.

The Septims aren't the sole proprietor of Throneship, they were just favorable because of the pact that kept Daedra from rampaging the lands, but the pact no longer applies and they no longer matter, so now anyone with a significant amount of power can be Emperor (as it had been before)

They are an important part of the two Elder Scrolls novels, which are considered Canon.

Indeed. At the end of the day Might Is Right, and the Medes rule because a Mede had the Might to rule. Tiber Septim didn't get power because he was Dragonborn, he got power because he claimed it. His dragonblood was just very convinient and beneficial for the Empire.

Am pretty sure no one here knows how Akatosh makes dragonborn. If he/she is demigod or just mortal who got blood transplant with a dragon, or maybe Akatosh did zeus thing with one mortal woman.

You aren't eligible. The title was passed by blood. That the Septims were dragonborn is incidental.
