How do I translate esp′s with the construction kit

Post » Wed Jun 20, 2012 2:49 pm

Hi all!

I would like to translate some esp′s from english to german, because I have a mix of german and english, caused of many mods with only english esp′s.

Is there a tutorial how to translate with the CK, or could anyone explain how to do it?

Thanks in advance!

This is not going to be easy, depending on which mods you'll be translating.
Generally, there is not one place where you'll be editing and then you're done. You basically need to go through every form, cell, dialogue topic, quest etc. that has a name that is shown on screen (in contrast to just internal identifications) and edit that.
It might probably be best not to use the CK, as you can't load only a plugin without its masters (skyrim.esm) but some external tool like TESVSnip. (SkyEdit would work, too, but currently is too limited in its capabilities - no dialogue editing, for example.)
So open the plugin in TESVSnip and click through all the entries. What you usually want to edit are the FULL subrecords:
Load the plugin.
Select the record in the upper left.
In the lower left window, select the subrecord containing a string, i.e. the FULL subrecord, and in the button bar of that window, click "Edit Subrecord". Translate and save, and continue with the next.
I'm not sure if you get everything in this way, and you should really only translate screen text and avoid changing internal identifiers at all cost, but that's the general direction.

P.S. Wenn was unklar ist, kannst du auch gerne eine PM auf Deutsch schreiben, auch wenn ich fürchte, da? das, wie geschrieben, keine triviale Sache ist. Vor allem zu erkennen, welche Eintr?ge man ?ndern kann bzw. mu? und welche man tunlichst in Ruhe lassen sollte, ist wichtig. :)

Thanks for the answer!

In the meantime I′ve worked it out with the egg translator, it works for Skyrim when you use the settings for Fallout.

But it′s a lot of work... anyway, I`ll do it that way, and I can translate every .esp from new mods when I download them.

Trotzdem vielen Dank! :)

I have another problem...

I still have a mixture of german and english (townnames, names of shops...).

In which file do I find these texts and how can I open/edit them?

Skyrims language is set to german in steam and in the .ini!

Thanks again in advance!

In general translating in Skyrim is a lot more difficult than in Oblivion or Morrowind, eg. you cannot export "plugin only" texts in CK (even if it was possible, there is no Import function!). More than that - there are String files but developer didn't provide any tools to work with them, eg. you cannot save a plugin in CK with Strings. This all is weird for me.

Anyway, you can try String Localizer.
