How useful is luck?

10 Luck almost guarentees you will always win in Gambling. (Almost.) and it ALWAYS gets you Crit hits.

Try single betting on Roulette and you'll recant that almost. I have gotten 7 #x Oranges and I haven't one a Single Bet once.

With gambling I've noticed that max bets tend to make you "feel lucky" more often than small bets. With my luck 10 guy I tended to lose all my money when I would bet conservatively, but I quickly got banned when I went all out. You just need to buy a large enough initial stack to allow for a short losing streak. With high luck, you definitely average out ahead.

My 9 luck character turned 18 caps into ~ 40,000 in under half an hour by playing smartly at Blackjack so I'd say it's rather effective when it comes to gambling. Always keep it at an odd number as was stated as the evens seem to be waste. 7 Luck is a good number to stick with if you don't want to focus on it, a single initial point plus the implant nets you generally good gambling results and nice skill boosts as well as modest critical hit chances.

Actually I can't seem to lose at Blackjack or Caravan.

Well, it's not like luck really affects Caravan. As long as you've purchased a few cards and have your deck tweaked properly, it's practically impossible to lose Caravan, unless you've just got no skill for it.

The two best decks I've seen being the 6/8/10 and the 7/9/10... keep about 6-8 of each.. a smattering of jacks and kings... and you're good. ESPECIALLY for the 7/9/10. Using the kings to double opponent's cards to knock them out of the '26'.. . Or just go with lots of jacks to ruin any good runs, or kill any jokers if they're using it to kill your cards

I don't recall Luck affecting skills.. that's new to me and i've been an FO player for ages now.

I have not seen the algorithyms for this game, however back in the Morrowind days when we derived all the equations it was found that Luck played a part in every equation. It could add up to 12.5% to the outcome on everything you did. Even enchanting and Alchemy. There were some formulas that Luck could play an even bigger role in.

Luck continued in this way with Oblivion and then to Fallout 3. What I don't know is if the 12.5% factor is the same or if it is some other magnitude. This is the first game where Gambling is a part of the play, and there is a combat outcome that is very visible as far as Luck's part in the outcome, Critical Chance. So, people seem to focus soley on those two things as being what Luck is for. However, Luck is part of each and every equation that the game crunches to determine the outcome or result.

Based on how these games have been programmed under Bethesda, I would say that ignoring Luck as a Stat would be detrimental to your success in the game. I have seen the game change siginificantly in subtle ways having a higher Luck Level. The only question I have is, does having a Luck below 5 hurt the outcomes or just make them a little less successful In other words, is a Luck Level of 4 the same as applying a Negative 1 to the equations that Luck is used in, or, is it just using the value of 4 in the equations.

During the quest Et Tumor, Brute, if you have high luck, you can trust in your luck to preform the surgery. Besides that, high luck makes you a blackjack god.
