How was your experience?

when i got the game I bought it from gamestop. they wanted to sell the strategy guide with it. I refused. The game came with a manual. other than that i felt there was nothing else I have needed to know. I have yet to look up a walkthrough on the internet for this game.

Has anybody else done this?

Yeah, Gamestop likes to try and sell game guides whenever they can. Honestly, I feel like game guides are more like collectibles now... because the internet almost always has a wiki for the game you're playing. I've been using UESP for years.

Though, I did look up stuff for Skyrim. Daedric quests (for an achievement, marriage (didn't believe it was in the game at first! haha), houses, and some quests to see if they were buggy. Nothing really crucial though.

I've only bought one stretegy guide in my life, for the first game I ever bought. It ruined the game for me so I've never bought another one. However, I'm terrible with puzzles, so I had to look a few of Skyrim's quests up on UESP.

I buy stratergy guides - but I only use them for reviewing quests that I've already done when I'm away from Skyrim and bored.

I bought the guide for the hell of it. Every time I referred to it for information, I couldn't find what I was looking for. Now it sits on the shelf next to my Oblivion and Morrowind guides.

I bought only two stratergy guides and that was Morrowind GOTY edition and Vanguard Bandits. To answer your question I rarely buy stratergy guides anymore since I can just look up the answers on the Internet.

I tend to avoid guides, and I've only looked at the wiki's and cheats/hints section on these forums after I had done the main quest and had hundreds of hours in-game, to pick up on things that I missed or to find new things to do.

My brother is on a deployment overseas, with intermittent internet access, so he has taken the guide with him as he may not be able to check up on things.

I have the guide, and I'm using it mostly for planning mods. The map it comes with is extremely useful.

My wife got me the Guide for Morrowind back in the day but since then, nope. If I'm really stuck there's a wiki. Otherwise I prefer to just play the game.

I bought the collectors edition strategy guide on day 1 with the game. I didn't open it until I finished the main quest. Now i use it from time to time to make sure I'm not missing anything.

I have no problems with using it, it's called personal choice.

really don't need a guide for this game. The puzzles have the answer literally written on the wall most of the time, and you don't have to look for anything just follow the quest marker.

I hate strategy guides. Honestly, even Skyrim's loading screens piss me off a little bit. I don't want to be shown some of the toughest enemies in the game while I'm zoning into Helgen Keep...you know? The Dwarven Centurion is all I can think of. I really wish the first time I saw one was when I had to fight one. I still haven't seen one in game. But now I also know what some Daedric weapons, dragon armor, and other high level [censored] looks like without even playing 5 minutes into the game. That for me was torture. Like forcing spoilers down your throat. I really don't understand whoever thought that was a good idea.

But yeah I use UESP mostly for lore but sometimes if I just NEED to see or experience something, I'll check where I go to get the quest or whatever. Most recent example was the opposite actually, I wanted to save the Uderfrykte for later so it would be special, so I check which quest line not to do for now.

.....really...the dwarven centurion....they don't even show you the spiders on loading screens or iron armor and other low level crap they could have used for those

I never buy guides. I like to figure things out on my own, it's especially important in an open-world game like Skyrim where I need exploration and discovery to truly enjoy the experience.

If I ever get stuck, I search the internet. Not that I really need it in Skyrim, but there are other games more challenging than this one.

And seriously, how many mistakes are there in the game guides?

I bought the guide and found it was invaluable. Starting alchemy has to many less wasted ingredients for starters. I only check out quests and such after I am done them I use it for game mechanics info and such like reading which perks are actually usefull, alchemy, etc.

Part of it too I guess would be the reason people buy books in general. They sit on the shelf, you can pull it down and take a look and rifle through it.
