How do you level up in fallout?

Post » Fri Jul 08, 2011 3:18 pm

I see people saying Im level 40 or im level 50 (cause of the glitch) but how do they get the experience? Is there some experience vending machine or something? im level 32, and cant really get any higher, Ive done most of the quests (There are 2 that should get to me to lv 33-34) killed all the deathclaw so what do I do to get experience points!!!

Everytime you hack a computer or kill an enemy you get XP. You puzzle me with this question. Are you simply walking around avoiding conflict? I'm lost. It's almost possible to gain XP by thinking about shooting something.

Senselessy wonder around, and kill everything. If you are pro Legion this works well as NCR respawns all the time. Super mutants respawn on black mountain. Fiends respawn rather quickly. Other than that I'm not sure. I think I hit the level 30 cap normally then did Honest Hearts, which got me to 35ish, I basically neglected Dead Moeny until I was level 38 so all the ghost people and quests boosted me up pretty quick.

So pretty much go on a bloody rampage? seeing as I am siding with yes man I can kill pretty much anyone and get away with it...im on good terms with the NCR but I guess it has to end.

Do every quest you can. Kill every Powder Ganger, Fiend, Raider, Ghost person, etc. Pick every lock. Hack every computer. Pass Speech checks. Disarm every trap.

You do not need to go on a murderous rampage, slaughtering NCR and Legion alike - I've never had to and I hit cap all the time. I stay friendly with every faction for as long as possible so I can complete as many quests as possible. Along the way, I do everything that I just said to do (kill everything that's hostile, and use all my skills).

I mean a fast easy and effective way, easy is killing things but it is slow, fast is completing quests I already did and effective is getting a decent amount of experience for doing something

The majority of my EXP came from Challenges and Quests. To emphasize this, my main playthrough Ruin, is at level 40 and is still on The House Always Wins IV. :spotted owl:

You've made me a happy man. I know what I must do, I must learn how to make mods, Vault 19 shall become... tc_vault_19.

one must ask, you do have both add-ons installed right? You obviously have one installed to get beyond 30, but I'm just sayin: more quests, more exp

also if you really feel you're leveling slowly you can always get the Swift Learner perk x3. Some feel it's a waste of a perk (or three) and I'd be inclined to agree but it's worth mentioning.

I have neither Honest Hearts nor Dead Money; likely OWB and Lonesome Road will be my only FONV add-on purchases. I can't wait to select the "Capped At Level 30" trait! :celebration:

Yeah, what everybody else said. Personally, I always hit a level cap before I know it in NV, and feel disappointed there's no more leveling to be done (until next DLC!). It always happens so suddenly, without even trying. And I don't particularly go out of my way to go slaughter everything. I do pretty much kill everything I run across that isn't friendly, but I don't go on any deliberate rampages.

I have beaten the game many times, and I have played through both DLCs, and like you I always seem to come up short of cap. The highest I have gotten is lvl 34, and I gained one of the lvls at the battle for the Dam which does not count. I know I could farm xp by killing respawns, but I don't really view this as 'that kind of game'.

Are there any places in the Mojave that you haven't been too? There's more than a hundred locations, not including the DLCs, and a lot of them have their own guards. Places like the Cazador nest, Bootjack Cavern, Fire Root Cavern, and the Legendary Deathclaw Cavern are awesome places to go for XP.

I started playing when I got the game, was at level 20 when they released DM, I was max when HH came out. Right now I'm maxed out waitng for OWB. I don't get how you're NOT maxed out. My main character missed out on a LOT of missions because I went too far ahead to start ED-E' and Boone's quests and I'm still maxed.

Wait...are you running an XP reducer or something? Cause that would explain your problem.

Personally, I level up by being Awesome.
Of course, by that I mean walking around the Mojave instead of fast traveling around. You tend to get in more fights so a lot more exp.

Also, if you sleep in an Owned Bed you get the Well Rested bonus which is +10% to exp. earned. Some small quests already give you way more exp. than you should be getting. Add that additional 10% all the time and pretty soon you'll be rolling in levels. (Levels are considered a physical thing that can be rolled in, right?)
