I don't relate much at all. This is only my opinion, but I feel lifeless unless I play a Nord. It makes for nice synergy with the world and story, but I myself don't feel very attached to my character.

I try to create an extension of myself, what i would be like if i was in the world of skyrim...hence why my 1st character was a barbarian nord that looks like me, added a blind eye and wicked scar for some embelished badassery ;)

I can roleplay any kind of character up to the level of "complete jerk". I can come up with all sorts of motivations and preferences, but when it comes to just screwing NPCs over for no reason, I find that hard to do. Not impossible, but I don't like it that much.

Same.

I play as an extension of myself, like a `what if` I was born in that world.

I've been playing as a Breton child named "Dovakid" recently, it puts a funny spin on things in the game. For instance, the intro execution scene makes that imperial captain seem a lot more evil when she sends a ten year old to the chopping block, or at Jorrvaskr when people complain about Kodlak letting me into the companions. XD

I use the "what if" line from above but it's really not an extension of myself. I, for example, would not steal everything in the world that isn't glued down. But the character I play does just that. But it has more to do with the background that I have created for him. And so I use that background to answer all "what if" questions. How would my thief/smith handle a dragon? He would bust out the kick bottom double wielded war axes and run up on that dragon's head and start swinging away. Because he is a master smith he has very good heavy armor for defense and excellent damage to deal with the fine weapons he makes. And he charges in to fights because of the problems he had during childhood bullies. (he spent all his time crafting rather than hunting with friends) Nowadays, he is still a loner but he's become adept at splitting skulls in a hurry.

I try to find some aspect of my own personality and use that one aspect as the foundation of a character. Then, I come up with a decent backstory for the character, and let the character's past experiences, in combination with the basic personality, inform his/her choices within the game. Sometimes the choices the character makes may not have been exactly what I would have done, but they were choices that I can understand and respect given the character's motivation and history. The more I play as that character, the more detailed the personality of the character, the better I can roleplay, and interestingly enough, the more i find out about myself, as the character started out as an extension of an aspect of my own personality.

...aaaaaand sometimes i like to just play a crazy person who steals, murders, pulls pranks, and wears nothing into combat with a giant flying lizard. ;-D

I'm sneaky, I know how to kill dragons, If I screw up in life I need not worry, I can just pull my left ear (that's my F9 key) and go back to not screwing up and I can hadouken fireballs from my wrists (as long as I'm not wearing gloves).

tru i think it makes RP so much better if you personalize your character

so tell me a story of one of the "you's" in skyrim :)

I have 2 "me's", 1 is a barbarian nord who weilds a battle axe, answers to none, and cuts down all in his way as he wanders the land doing as he pleases.

The 2nd "me" is a high elf wizard who's on a quest for knowledge, wisdom and understanding, seeking to learn all there is to know about his art and himself while learning all he can about the land of skyrim. He became a friend of the orc librarian and helps him on his quest for written knowledge when he can

That's funny... and cool. If they ever made a platformer, this should have be the default character. ;)

Might as well speak the truth.

My character is a thief. My ego is a kleptomaniac. If I wasn't aware of this I would continue to do the things I've done in the past. I now find myself recompensating for what I have taken.

It's hilarious!

I'm playing him as an evil little punk, like MOST of the children in Skyrim.

A ten year old beheading people with a two handed axe is rather funny.

You can see him in action by clicking the "Dovakid versus Potema" link in my sig.

He just became a vampire though, let's see how that goes.

I can't tell if you adjusted his height?

Allie is her own person; she isn't me. However, after playing her for 16 years in many different ES games, I'm pretty familiar with who she is.

One thing I noticed the other day which is different about our personalities is that I love pets, and Allie has no interest in them. She hasn't bothered with a dog.

I didn't, I have to stand on higher steps to hit monsters sometimes XD

He is really small compared to everything. The npcs look down at me when they are talking and I can't jump into the back of the carriage because I am too short. XD

With a controller. The buttons and colors on my controller have more depth then Skyrim is capable of having.

Shaarilla was my second Morrowind character, and the one I really got to like that game. So she's been back in Oblivion, and now in Skyrim.
She's certainly not me, though, even not me-in-Skyrim. For starters, she's female, and I'm not, and she can do all sorts of hero things, and I cannot.
Also, she's backstabbing, sometimes brutal and morally, um, shady. Kinda NOT-me-in-Tamriel, come to think of it. I hope.

P.S. Noticed this thread by "Last post: Allerleirauh". Still of fame from Morrowind days.

In real life I am a decent guy (really, I am a nice guy in real life) and I tend to play good characters. I have a real hard time with evil characters. Not playing them, but remembering to be evil. I will slay an entire house then go help someone because I backslide into goodness.

I made my nord look like myself, I also made my Khajiit and High Elf look like me. The latter two were harder to do Obviously but I think I got them pretty close to if I were a Cat or an Elf.

I think you need to have a little chat with a "Child" NPC called Babette. She may just take the image of a "Child" out of your sails.

She scares me. And she's just a little kid.
