How do you use the atronach forge?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:53 pm

I'm trying to upgrade my ebony war axe to daedric. I've got the ingredients I'm supposed to need; the war axe I want to upgrade, the daedra heart, and a black soul gem.

But, when I put those three things in the offering box, and pull the lever, nothing happens! I can even take the ingredients back out.

What am I doing wrong?

To go from Ebony to Daedric with that forge you need the sigil stone. Get 100 conjuration skill to get a sigil stone from the Conjuration trainer at the college

I have the sigil stone. I checked the UESP before using it. Heck, if it weren't for UESP, I wouldn't have known the Atronach Forge could even do this!

Place the Sigil Stone in the thing right behind the box, it even looks like it was meant to hold an orb

Done that too.

I even filled the gem with a black soul, just in case that was the problem. Still nothing.

Do I need to be a certain rank with the College of Winterhold? I'm not really a magic character; I just got in so that I could use the forge to get daedric stuff.

*smacks forehead*

How stupid of me! Even the UESP says I need that!

Also the Ebony Weapon needs to be unenchanted
Can it still be tempered?

Regular stock enchantments wont work, but tempered stuff can. Player-altered items don't change the base ID like they did in previous games

One thing that always bothered me about the Antronach Forge is how you'd know all the recipes and how it works based on in-game knowledge. Sure we as the player have things like UESP, there's the guide book and of course these forums. But how the heck does my character know all about it?

There's a very brief book that outlines the basics of how to use it, but beyond that there's just no information on how it works and what it's good for. Recipe drops related to it are very very rare in my experience as well, so short of out of the game knowledge you have as the player your character would never be able to fully explore using it. The whole thing felt tacked on and under-developed to me.

I feel that it could have been used for so much more, like building an army of atronachs or constructing a super golem bodyguard. Even the main quest could have benefited from it, like only it could forge a weapon strong enough to slay alduin or some such crap
