I'm looking to buy a house in Riften... Can someone tell me who I buy it from? Or if I have to do a certain quest?

I can't remember the name, but talk to the person next to the Jarl in mistwhatever keep. It's 8000 gold and tbh it's a crappy house hehe.

The steward in Riften is a High Elf lady, but she doesn't seem to have any option to buy a house. Occasionally she gives me a dragon bounty, but that's it.

You might have to do the Jarl a favor to get the option. I honestly can't remember since I hate the house so I never went back to get it again after my first run through lol, sorry

I figured I'd have to impress the Jarl somehow, but so far she doesn't want to offer me any work either. Oh well, looks like I'll be buying in Whiterun instead. Thanks for trying to help

I have a house in Whiterun, would be nice not having to go back there when I'm working around Riften for storage.

Maybe its a glitch? I'm having the same problem. Btw, once you buy decor for your houses, they look awesome, so don't be put off by their initial appearance.

When buying the house from the Housecarl in Whiterun, a small glitch apparently occurs if trying to buy the house when you are not standing in the throne room. Was that the case with you OlafH?

And you can definitely get the Riften house without having to do work for the Jarl?

I'm still trying to get the jarl to give me the next set of quests after the first three skooma quests, but the dialogue won't come up.
