Me vs 7 human players... wtf?

Post » Thu May 19, 2011 2:50 am

So it seems to me the matchmaking and team sorting of this game is completely broken... frequently i get into matches where the amount of human players on each team is completely unbalanced? What is up with this crap?

Why is it so hard for them to fix this so it only matches evenly ? Is it really that difficult lol? This game is going to fail if they don't get this stuff down.

I'm going to start keeping record of how many times the teams are actually fair. I'd guess it's literally less than 25% of the games that the teams are even. Pathetic lol...

Not when its you vs 7, they are all defending an objective and of course 90% of them are engineers with turrets up lol. How do you even combat that?

I've been noticing a strange habit of the matchmaking to load the defending team first (so the defense always has extra players) and when those that want to be on defense join they switch, ignoring the concept of balance. I often find myself alone attacking a 3 man defense.

I had a game where I was playing Shipyard as Security in competition mode (no bots) against 3 human players, all engineers. I tried for a while thinking it might connect with one of them to balance the teams and have an actual challenge, but no luck. After a while the game kept connecting a player but he kept disconnecting (don't know if he was having trouble or just didn't want to be on the attacking side), so I just started messing around with the CPs to draw them out. One quit, was immediately reconnected to the game on my side, so he quit again (did this several times), and with about 4 minutes left I finally got a teammate, making it 2 v 2 and we managed to make it to the next section, but there just wasn't enough time.

I always try to join the team that is short by more than one player. If the defending team has one extra I'll see where it goes, if we push them to their spawn and sit on them I switch, if they put up a worthy fight (they're good players) I usually stay. I don't know why anyone would want to "win" a game when there's no challenge at all.

Equal teams = no challenge... no sir... that is where the real challenge comes from. It's not fun for either side when it's ridiculously imbalanced.

That's what I'm saying, but you get these players that seem to like to win by dominating a single player instead of switching.

They need to take out the switch team function and make human players on each team equal. can't be hard lol.

It was happening in my game earlier, although I was fortunate enough to be on the team with the most human players. It started off as just me + bots vs more bots, but then people started joining until at one point we had a full (Lagless, woot.) 8v8 game going. One team started winning, and slowly the other team dropped out, leaving only one human player left on their team, but mine was still full of people. So the only open slots in this game were on the team that had less people in it, so naturally that's where everyone gets thrown.

And obviously hardly anybody is going to change teams from the winning side with more people, to go help the one person on the losing side. It's not a flaw in matchmaking that you guys are experiencing. It's a flaw with players. If the original team hadn't quit in the first place then nobody would have joined a game only to be thrown into a losing situation.

Because those players are addicted to winning but don't understand the challenge behind it.

That's why Brink needs an auto balance feature. Without it, Competition and big teams will often empty out and players will be discouraged from playing the game.

This game was meant to be played online against players, not against bots!

Heck, when it's unbalanced, I often switch teams to add a little spice in the other team's game XD

1 w/ bots VS 8 human players? Bring it on!

At least the bots buff each other ._.

i thought this as well, that is, before the stat site went up. i am on resistance side regardless of win or lose. i enjoy being able to play the way i like and still be able to have as much fun as when i first bought it day1.

OR they could just have a pre-lobby system where people get matched up so you can have 8v8 matches to start.

I liked the idea behind the stopwatch gamemode because it would allow both sides to attack and defend, but what seems to happen is that when I can get humans to join they only play the defense round. Then they quit before they have to attack. I prefer to attack because it is more challenging and exciting going after objectives in my opinion.
Defense is too easy on this game, for a large part due to the AI differences between attacking and defending bots. It seems that the bots are programmed to actually defend the primary objectives, but when attacking they seem more preoccupied with command posts and secondaries. And since they made it so that only 4 humans can be on each team that means 1/2 of your team is going to be pretty much worthless when attacking. But I do enjoy the challenge, it is very satisfying to complete the objectives when on offense, especially against other humans.
Very fun, balanced classes / abilities but the offense / defense balancing needs some work.
