An idea : Bethesda style harry potter game

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 9:22 am

Recently watched the last harry potter movie and I almost cried at the ending ;)
But I just thought about this idea. I'm talking about a game that has NOTHING to do wtih harry's adventures, or anything like that. I'm not talking about some rubbish movie game made for the purpose of of making money, aimed towards little kiddies, like the movie games have been.

I'm talking about a bethesda-RPG style harry potter game. You start off with a rubbish wizard, in the wonderful world of harry potter... you train him up, do quests for people... you can become a mighty powerful evil wizard, or a member of the aurora...

Need new equipment? Go down to diagon ally! Go to ollivanders and get yourself the best wand you can for your money... get some nice looking robes... buy some books that teach you new spells! I'm not talking about a linear story driven game! As I said, bethesda-RPG style.

The story would start with you being some petty 10 year old, living a regular life in the world of magic. One day you get a letter inviting you to hogwarts! You get to ride the train, you sit down, look out the window and watch the lush landscape go by. You arrive at hogwarts, and get initiated into a house. In your house dorm you can interact with the other students and they can become your friends, and they may help you out on your future adventures. Then the real game starts. You chose what forms of magic you want to study most (like chosing your major/tag skills) Choices like... Charms, Transfiguration, Conjuration, Duelling spells, Offensive spells, Jinxes, Hexes, Curses, Defensive spells, Healing spells, Magical fauna and flora, Magizoology, Herbology, Magic creation, Alchemy, Potions, Wandlore, Divination, Dark Arts... so many potential choices for your wizard!
All of these branches of magic have different advantages and disadvantages. Don't think there are any shortages of spells to use, either! Just look here : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_spells_in_Harry_Potter
And then after 7 years of study at hogwarts (which of course are fast forwarded where they need to be :P) you can go out into the world and get a magical job... a guard at gringgots, a wandlore apprentice of ollivander, an evil wizard who goes round murdering people and using your leet magic skills to avoid the law... working for the daily prophet, setting up a potion shop... becoming an aurora (who are basically the magic SWAT) or become a world star quidditch player! SO many possibilities!

What do you guys think?

Sounds more like a project for a talented modding team and the Creation Engine. You know... because Bethesda doesn't own the rights to Harry Potter and therefore can't create a Harry Potter game.

I said bethesda style, not bethesda. I think another company rich enough could buy the rights and do it.

I'm not really too sure about a creation engine mod. It would be a cleaner and better product if it were made by some game company.

You obviously haven't seen the mods that are being released these days. Some of them are higher quality than most AAA titles you see.

I know exactly what you mean. But with an established company, we can see high quality voice acting... new tech... it could be made in a shorter time... you know.

A creation engine mod of this is still very possible though I guess.

As good as it would be, last I knew EA owned the rights to it, so I don't think anything good will happen. And I really don't see Bethesda buying the rights from them.

I'd play it. :goodjob: Only little teensy thing I'd change is the ability to buy a new wand since, you know, the wand chooses the wizard and all that jazz.

You really need to check some awesome mods :P Lots of mods are fully voiced and many times the voice acting is superior than the vanilla game :)

At any rate, why not?

I'd rather have a bethesda style Superhero game, maybe that's just me.

Bethesda style pokemon game would be sweet. Pokemon made immersive in a whole new way. I'm serious.

Why spend all that money developing an intensive and varied gaming experience when you can just get a few coders to spend a couple of months knocking out some total piece of crap that people will still pay good money for just because it has the Harry Potter logo? Because that's how EA thinks about it...
