Richard- Neutral-Good Former NCR Ranger (Note: He actually is gay)
Richard was born in a small NCR controlled Farming Town to a NCR Trooper and a Farm girl named Haley. Haley was 17. Richard was born, luckily without a death. Haley tried to raise him and the Trooper, who Richard never met, would send back half of his pay to feed him. Haley died when Richard was 15; a nasty flu took her and a good amount of the farming town. Richard had managed to stay alive, and knew his only hope in the world was to join the outgoing NCR Troops, and serve until he could find his Father.
Richard found his father, six months after joining those few Soldiers. He found his father’s corpse in an NCR morgue. He knew he had to grow up now, fast. He was young, but he was strong. He had become fairly good with the NCR Service Rifle he had been given, but a Powder Ganger he had killed was carrying his new favorite weapon, a [censored] broken almost empty .357 Revolver. He grew to be an excellent shot with the Revolver, which he had named Alexandra. He had some minor weapons training; he had a gun to call his own. He had the respect of his fellow troops.
The other soldiers knew he was too young to be fighting with them, but they also knew that the wastes weren’t safe and he wanted to fight. He was good. After six years of service in that small group of soldiers he became a NCR Sergeant and was becoming fairly respected
One day, in the mess hall of a dusty bare bones NCR camp the grizzled NCR Sergeant was approached by a man in strange NCR garb, the clothing of a NCR Veteran Ranger, the best of the best. The Vet had an Anti-Material Rifle slung on his back and a pair of revolvers, one on either hip, a combat knife sitting idly in his boot sheath. He told Richard after explaining that he was indeed, a Veteran Ranger that Richard was being considered to join the Rangers.
Richard was excited. He was finally going to be able to do real good. Rangers were the honor guard, the most skilled fighters, the treasured warriors who the NCR above all trusted and valued. The Ranger told him that he would be going to a Ranger training center in the center of the Mojave. He would be allowed three days to get there. It was a two day journey, at best.
By morning Richard had gathered his weapons his armor, and three days of rations. With Alexandra on his hip, and an Assault Carbine and a Service Rifle on his back, he left walking to the coordinates that Ranger had given him. He wished deeply that he could bring one of his friends, one of those men he had served with for 6 years. He told himself, it was going to be a hard journey.
Richard got to that camp, when he finally sat down he realized he had a broken ulna and a fractured left index finger. The Doctor there, a man named Medical Officer Frank Burke, mended both injuries with ease. Richard soon learned that Burke was also a Ranger. Searching the camp, he found the Ranger who had sent him here. He approached the Ranger, who told him he was Corporal Vasquez and was the Ranger battalions Sniper. Richard was directed to the Ranger Academy within a cave hidden by the camp. Richard trained there for nearly a year. He became very skilled. His first Ranger’s mission had just come in on the squawker.
The mission was to attack a meeting between a large group of Power Gangers and a Caesar’s Legion Emissary and Scouting Party. If those two groups were to unite, crisis would break out. NCR camps would be attacked by both groups, they would be overwhelmed. Life in the outer NCR would be eradicated. It was decided 10 Rangers would be sent to end that deal. Richard and the other nine formed a 500 radial yard circle around where the deal was to take place. It was decided that the Rangers would sleep in shifts, 5 sleeping at a time. It was unknown when the deal would be happening, but it was soon and it was there.
In the night, the Rangers on sleep shift included Richard. Caesar’s Legion had appeared in the meeting area, and where forming a defensive perimeter. The Powder Gangers arrived shortly after, discovering the Rangers. They attacked. They charged attacking the Rangers, dynamite thrown into the fray, Rangers were stunned, and captured. The Gangers understood that Caesar’s Legion didn’t like them much, and 10 Rangers made for a nice warming gift.
The Legion took the Rangers, thanked the Gangers. Of course, they thanked them with Ballistic Fists and Machetes. The Rangers were forced into slavery, brutally assaulted, beaten, and forced into menial labor. They where spread far across the Mojave, made to work against the NCR, they government they used to serve. After a decade in slavery, Richard finally got hold of one of his “Owner’s” guns. A revolver, not Alexandra, but she would do just fine. He shot dead the Slaving bastards who tortured him. He freed the men and women he was enslaved with, and left the plantation he had been forced to work on.
Disillusioned, Broken, Poor, and disenfranchised Richard walked on. He traveled, searching for the NCR, searching the land for good people. His time enslaved, it had tainted him. He wasn’t as altruistic as he had once been. The world was a black place. Best a man can do is to be grey. Richard took on a new Persona. He learned about the Cowboys of the Old West, men who lived well, and honestly, good men. He modeled him self after them, learned to fight and live like a proper Cowboy. He took on a job as a courier when work had dried up. A Ranger who misses his days in the Military, workin’ as a paper boy, He’s ashamed.
