An idea for the Next Elder Scrolls

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:24 am

I read that a multiplayer verison was not going to happen with the series. But the idea got me thinking, what if it had a mailing system of some sort. What I mean is you can send items, collectables between players (books, decor, custom/orig weapons, spells, potions, recipes, etc). I think that interaction would be awesome to have.

Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose and satisfaction of finding all those items yourself?

No, it most certainly would not. Every player has the ability to obtain every weapon in the game and it would not be necessary to trade to get them. On another note, it would fundamentally ruin the game. Receiving fully upgraded Ebony Sword when you're a level one character would just take all the fun out of the game.

Skyrim just has large stretches of plains and mountains.

The story is basically one evil dragon you go find and destroy it, congratulations you saved the world.

Can you really expect anything great? Look up Borderlands 2.

Not sure if I see what the point is. I mean, single player game, everything is available to everyone in their own copy of the game. Plus console commands can make anything appear, and a toolset is coming that can create new things (PC version, of course).

I guess I don't get the idea. I can't imagine wanting someone to mail me something that I can find in pretty much the exact location he found it, or at the same level, or, if I want, can make it *poof* appear through the console commands... am I missing something?

Lol, fully upgraded sword ruin a game thats NOT online? No need to accept mail and use the item if you dont want to. Another idea is player/friend shops, same idea as mail- just money controlled.

Bad idea. TES games should be an exclusively singleplayer experience. Also, the series thrives a lot on immersion by sticking the player inside a believable fantasy world. If there was some kind of online marketplace or mailing system built into the game for players to trade items, it would be a serious blow to the believability of the gameworld. The only "people" I want to interact with in a TES game are citizens of Tamriel... not other players.

I didn't even like this feature when Pokemon started using it.

Thank goodness.

I don't know, I can't really see it to be honest. Theoretically every copy of the game will have all that already, you just have to find it - unless it is going down a Pokemon route, which wouldn't be a good thing. Plus there would have to be a good reason for trading, otherwise you end up with people getting the best weapons in the games at low, low levels (and I don't know what they would be trading in return to someone who has the best weapons and can be giving them away).

You can send your friends your potions, decorations and recipes.

It's called modding.

A borderlands style co op would be cool. If you have npc companions in the game I don't think out would ruin immersion to allow you to adventure with a friend. Wouldn't be too hard to make dungeons and enemies scale for increased difficulty. I could see it working out really well she there us always three option to not do it if you want an exclusively single player experience.
