So then my next thought was, it's going to be a long time till I can make an MMO, as the titles I'm working on are being aimed for online Indie sections and the iPhone, so I figured, why not tell my favorite creators up at gamesas? Who brought me my favorite title ever? And who have MUCH more resources than I do?
And so here I am! And finally, here's the idea:
In most MMOs, any of the successful ones anyway, there is this structure set in place that is in line with the structure of the game containing factions. I'm talking about major faction cities. And inevitably, these major cities become hubs of player transport, trade, society, etc. Now, there are, were, and would be factions in the Fallout universe, and by definition, hell, even Junktown was a faction, but I think the idea of that particular structure of every other MMO (2 sides, each having mirroring major cities) would not be real, or practical for the WHOLE of the Fallout universe. Even further, obviously, there would be major cities as well, that, indeed WOULD be major hubs of transport, trade, society, etc., but bear with me here. In reality, and more importantly, in the Fallout reality (you like that? lol) that's not where the untrusting, sometimes nomadic peoples of the Fallout universe would just immediately, and always call home. In fact, I think it does the Fallout universe more justice if you did this:
What if you, or a group of friends could just find some cave, and totally call that home? Set up beds or shanty homes in there and THAT would be YOUR home? This would create a real, dynamic, player driven world inside of your world. And the major cities? Well, they would serve their purpose, and probably, more than likely, would still not be any different than other games' cities. That's where you could learn MORE (but not all) of your profession. I'm not asking for a Fallout/Sims hybrid (though if you provided SOME customization of your establishment, I guarantee you it would open up the demographic of people interested) but the idea, even in this infantile stage, I think is quite amazing and, in its simplicity, could turn the social and current MMO infrastructure on its head. Factions? Hell, create your own! (Or join one). Isn't that what people wish guilds were anyway? Make a guild system, but call it factions, so my faction would raid your faction's cave! Now ofcourse, the game wouldn't be centered completely around this, but I believe, over any structure, this is the one that would do the Fallout universe the most justice, and would instill in this title, the very real mood and theme of all the Fallout games - untrusting, bleak, sometimes hopeless, unending self preservation.
