A idea to improve Fast TravelCarriages

...Maybe an alternative could be to give you a "well-rested" bonus or equivalent if you fast-travel with a carriage.

I like that idea!

This has been brought up before and the idea then was have carraiges 100% safe and FT have the chance for random encounters.

Personally I think it is fine the way it is, but if they added this feature it would be fine.
I wish they would actually move a bit before the black screen came up. Honestly I wish we had the option to ride them all the way but at least a little actual movement before fade to black would add to the illusion of travel. I also wish my companion and anyone else with me would get inside and sit with me before the fade happened. Just little stuff like that really.

I like both of these ideas and agree 100% ... I would also like to add that fast travel should only be available on horseback, or significant penalties. I think something like 25% chance for random creature encounter (spider, troll, bear, wolves) and a 10% chance encounter with bandits on caravan sounds good. If you have horse, they should have a speed rating. The speed rating should determine the probability, with the fastest horse in the game being able to outrun anything. Therefore, it would be the only way to fast travel with 0% chance for an encounter and give you motivation to actually GET it.
I'd also like to add random encounters that are not always fights. They could be unique quests, locations, events with deities, easter eggs... good stuff in there...

While I don't find FT "cheap" at all, I wouldn't mind a chance of random interruptions.

I feel that if fast travel was removed and limited only to carriages, we wouls actually have a reason to ride horses refularly.

Meh. I still wouldn't ride horses (they're useless for exploring, since there's things to interact with every 5 feet). I'd probably just end up not playing the game nearly as much. (Since, without FT, much of my game time would be taken up with tedious "trudge back and forth to town with loot, so I can get back to exploring". The repetition (since I need to hit Whiterun after just about every single dungeon dive) would drive me from the game right quick, odds are.

(Even Morrowind didn't have that limited of travel. What with the two Intervention spells, Mark/Recall, striders/boats, ancient teleporters, etc. And all those spell effects available as spells, potions, scrolls, or enchanted items, so that any class/RP could conceivably use them.)

I think they should just increase the random encounters on the roads/wild. That way you preserve what was intended for FT (an actual fast travel) and give people who want surprises some fun. Maybe make the horse faster so you could use it and find your own bandit attacks on the roads...
