{idea} Mojave STDs

Post » Sat Feb 19, 2011 2:00 am

Right. I haven't even seen the insides of the game yet and I'm already thinking up something weird..

Since there is the ability to have six in this edition of FO -what? Did the USA get a lot less prudish in two years? cool.

I was thinking....

you're walking the wastelands, boinking anything that moves and is sixual compatible, two hundred years after the war, with no rubbers within a million miles.

Someone's gonna catch something, I reckon.

And since we have the added VATS groin region for those special melee moves, what if that were to slowly ebb health away from that area, until crippled.
Once Crippled the character would start to limp, eventually, HP would be lost, and of course no one will sleep with you anymore :nope:

Getting cured would work like any other crippling effect -http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SH5a-deHquc&feature=related, and prophylactics would be available -but seriously expensive!!

For those times you just hooked up with Mrs. Microwave :D

Thoughts on this?

Nope, never been to Bangkok before, but I did drive long haul semi for about 12 years. In other words, I spent over a decade sleeping in truck stop parking lots.
Truckers in America call 'em Lot Lizards.
Nothing like being woke in the middle of your 10 hour rest break by some stranger banging on the side of your truck who wants to know if you want some "commercial company"....

I agree... there should be a risk to having unprotected six (are we allowed to say "six" on these forums?).
There should even be the risk (maybe slight, maybe not) of one of those diseases that Fallout SCIENCE! hasn't found a cure for, like real life syphilis, or AIDS. :nuke:

STD? I didn't know they had telephones in New Vegas. Who's their provider? I have enough trouble getting good reception in the pre-apocalyptic Mojave as it is!

I wonder if the Australian release will be censored or something stupid. Although my copy is coming from the UK, maybe I should have pre-ordered from somewhere else.
Reading around and I see so many 'mods' from FO3 implemented in this game.

There were diseases in Oblivion, poisoning and addicitions in FO3, I assume however the FO3 one was done could be applied here as well. Shouldn't be too hard to do. I don't have the game yet so I can't do much of anything except comment :)

I assume that all you would need to do is create a posion effect that affects you after sleeping with someone, maybe generated by a dice roll or LUCK,where you have a random chance to get"attacked"and therefore poisoned. This could then have a generated name and effect out of a list in the effects menu, like HIV,which could reduce damage resistace by a certain amount.Whew, glad I got THAT offa my chest.I have a MASSIVE imagination.

I have this game on the Xbox 360,so I have no mod experience whatsoever-this,in my opinion, lets the imagination run without constraints,as I have no idea of any limitations the GECK provides.I hope to get this for PC at christmas,so...

Isn't this the reason Morphine is Med-X in Fallout 3? The Australian people (for lack of a better word) wouldn't allow it?

You can see in the GECK that it was obviously intended to be called Morphine.

Australians?

If anyone figures out how to determine when the PC has slept with someone I'd like to hear it. Been wanting to add syphilis for a while now.

Haha. I meant the specific people that deal with game ratings and such. Apparently they are called the OFLC.

Wow, to hear you say that I am surprised, I have no idea how to do it, but for some reason now it seems harder than I had imagined. In my imagination it was just some "token" given from one person to the other, and if you had a "bad token" of some kind it would represent a specific disease. I don't know if is possible to keep an invisible token in your inventory but that was how I imagined it. You know, like an invisible "blue token of syphilis" and you give it to a NPC and one respawns in your inventory. But, I am sure I have no idea what I am talking about.

Ain't that the truth. When your [censored] actually crawls inside your body to hide, it's time to get on the first plane home.

In all seriousness though, I'm surprised STD's weren't already in the game. Every Fable game to date has had them, but the gritty wasteland presented in a game like Fallout does not? I support this, catching something should absolutely be possible, and it'd make you think twice spending your hard earned caps on some company...well, okay, not really, but the doctors visit would svck and you would swear not to do it again...that week...or that day.

EDIT: Invisible tokens are as far as I know possible, you could make some new references for Poker chips and add STD scripts to them, then make the invsible quest items that are added to your inventory and then removed when you're cured at a doctor.

It would look odd seeing "Herpes has been added to your inventory" though...

Other than that, it should be possible to script a poison effect of sorts that applies effects that fit the STD in question. Getting attacked shouldn't be necessary at all.

The game has a "disease" type actor effect, so the token wouldn't really be necessary.

I can think of two ways to figure out when the PC has slept with someone. The brute force approach would be to go through all of the dialog and find every response that results in the player getting it on. Add some code to that response to apply an STD at random. The other way would be to use NVSE commands to do a ref walk whenever the player is asleep. If another NPC is within a certain distance, and asleep, odds are they're in the same bed and... This second option would be a lot quicker to implement, but would probably result in some "false positives" like if you go to sleep in one of several bunks in a barracks with a lot of NPCs around. Course, who's to say nothing would happen in that situation? Be kind of a funny message to wake up to, actually.

It's not just diseases you'd have to worry about either. There's parasites, too.

Y'know... like Radcrabs.

I think it's a cool idea and ands more realism, how about with a high enough survival skill you can craft your own rubber's....from say a animal hide

I don't know I probebly sound crazy :bonk: though...but that's my .02 caps
