My ideal skyrim

to start off, fantastic game, well worthy of goty award. however im not pleased with the direction bethesda have gone with the gameplay in the series. too much simplifying, why not make it even more complex??? here is what i would have wanted from the game to make it a personal favourite. some things will be from previous games in the series.

1. crawl spaces. what is it with this? every elder scrolls and fallout game have areas that look accessible by crawling through. i try every time but am dissapointed. would make for some cool secret areas.

2. magic spell upgrade. upgrade a spell with rare runes that can only be found in secret areas or on bosses etc. each spell can only be upgraded once and you have to choose between 1 of 3 effects. for example use a rune with "flames" spell, you can choose between increased range, increased damage or increased area of effect.

3. return of acrobatics skill that increases jumping height and swimming speed. and has perks like- 20% reduction of falling damage. an evade manouver perk like in oblivion. a jumping off the surface of water perk like oblivion. and "reflex" perk- whenever you fall or get knocked off of a ledge an indicator appears which you can choose to ignore where you press Y to hang onto the edge and pull yourself up, possibly avoiding death. (i guess acrobatics was probably removed to stop players getting out of the map but i already have got out of the map twice)

4. return of attributes and any perks that conflict with them are replaced/modified. (not neccessary really i just miss attributes)

5. weapon degrading. rediculous that this is gone. it encourage full use of your arsenal and ensured that you couldnt spam OP weapons, or at least hindered said spamming.

6. when viewing weapons in the menus text is shown that tells you if a weapon is one or two handed.

7. HUD icons that display active magical effects. can be turned off

8. air meter that shows how much air left when underwater. can be turned off.

9. useful environment. just like the flammable liquid that you can ignite to aid you in battle, id like to have the ability to pick up stone blocks and other reasonable objects that you can throw at enemies causing damage or to use as a distraction. a perk is needed to throw heavier objects.

10. NO full-time followers. only quest related ones. kinda ruins the challenge. also makes inventory pointless since they are your mule.

11. return of spell crafting. one of the best features of previous games.

12. when out of stamina you get knocked to the ground if hit with a melee attack, a acrobatics perk could help against this- 15%chance to not be knocked down when out of stamina, with 3 levels to the perk. also quick attacks effect stamina too like in previous TES.

13. . perhaps the favourites menu could be color coded or split into sub-sections to make it easier to navigate- spells, weapons, shouts and other.

14. third person/first person perspective switch is an option in the menus, freeing up a button on consoles that has a ton of opportunities- a kick button, evade button or a grab button which only works on human enemies. to name a few.

15. mantling. thief had it. system shock 2 had it. and those games are 12+ years old. would be awesome in skyrim, but complicated to implement i assume.

16. NPCs give directions to quest locations, making navigating without objective markers suitable.

17. more secret areas to discover.

18. more verticality to some dungeons. its what made morrowind dungeons extra interesting and adds more opportunities for secret areas.

19. a jumping attack where you slam your weapon downwards. would make for some interesting sneak attacks/assassinations.

20. ability to jump mid-sprint

21. if you choose expert or master difficulty at the start of a new game you can not change it mid-game. also an achievement for skrim is- reach level 81 and complete the game on master difficulty.

22. arrows have weight.

23. NPCs react to the players status realisticly (guildmaster status and not repeating the same lines more than 3 times thoughout the game/time limt before they repeat, obviously they repeat for quests though)

24. i couldnt care less about this one but its all in the name of a better game so here goes- first person view on horses, NPCs on horses, use bows on horses. make horses have very low health so cant be exploited. and in combat they may get scared and buck you off.

obviously some of these ideas might be in conflict with the current mechanics and level design etc. but if professionally implemented by bethesda this game would be the greatest on xbox360 for me. but for now my fav is fallout new vegas. but seriously bethesda!? you guys add stuff like getting married and wood chopping instead of all this bad-assery???? i think y'all been playing too much fable or mass romance effect

that aside forgive my rudeness and i applaud you for creating a complex, immersive and breathtaking game world. congratulations on winning GOTY again.

Weapons and armor degrade with use and damage taken. Some weapons and armors have better life capacity and degrade at slower/faster rates. Also if an armor or weapon is depleted it can break and costs 5Xs the amount to repair.

very good. more ideas appreciated. in a fantastic RPG called arx fatalis if you miss the enemy and hit a wall that also counts towards your weapon degrading. its all the little things....

All very good ideas, I would only like to add to the list really

23. A hardcoe RPG mode, making it required that the character eat, drink, and sleep and impose negative buffs to health and stamina when these needs are ignored. (you could have 3 modes to it, Standard: runs as the game does now - no requirements, Adept: adds requirements for eating, drikning, and sleeping with penalties, hardcoe: All adept requirements, plus no fast travel)
24. Bring classes back, this would help to slow leveling and force characters to focus on core skills more or just bring back the custom class creation from Oblivion, so the player must choose 4 primary and 2 secondary skills for leveling.
25. The ability to carry bed rolls, kind of goes with 24, this way you can sleep when needed without having to find a bed. (maybe even allow portable shelters, and cooking gear) Also, by doing this you could make the world bigger
26. Build a better economic system, make gold and treasure more rare, also make more reasons for spending gold, possibly impose taxes on the houses, maintenance fees for horses, have the black smith able to custom smith weapons, court wizard can perform enchanting/ recharging services.... etc.

A lot of the points on this thread are pretty good, I reckon. Would have to be an option for a lot of it though - the nice thing with Skyrim is that it appeals to a massive audience. I've never seen a game take off like this, especially a role playing game. I've played it a lot - and I'm still playing. As a lot of people, I've got a full time job, got things I need to do, but oddly enough I make time for Skyrim.

If the game was really difficult/challenging, it may actually turn people off the game after a while. And saying that - when the game gets too easy, it just gets boring. So obviously have to manage between the two. I think a lot of the points will be managed by mods in the future, except perhaps the environment being more interactive. It's rather interactive as it is, but being able to pick up a stone would be cool. I usually use the bow and arrow to distract enemies, sometimes it works.

Definitely think the hardcode mode should be in - cooking food would be so much more useful - I hardly cook any food. And a better economic system would be cool as well.

Some good ideas here. Real needs, weapon degradation and spell crafting are what caught my attention. I would like to add two things;
1. the ability to get NPCs out of my way. If I enter a tight area they seem to almost always stand in the doorway. Fallout NV had a command on the wheel to "step back". Don't want a wheel, maybe just an "auto-push" function when you walk into then in a non combat situation... or an "awareness" in the ai?
2. NPCs also have horses. I use horses from time to time and having my companion following on horseback would be nice.
I'm guessing that most of the above will be provided by the modding community when the toolset is released.

:-)

To have NPC's get out of the way would be awesome. And have them on horses.
Actually, to be able to use a bow and arrow on a horse would be really awesome.

shortned yours, but having sub sections would defeat the purpose of having that menu, it's to access things quickly, if you need color coded or sub section, don't like as many things...

yay my thread finally got noticed!

in response to daytona- yes devs need to give us options. but if players can handle the complexity of skyrim surely they can take a bit more? what do you mean by difficult? combat or just having more gameplay options? because my suggestions only make combat more fun!

in response to the atm- but i like to like things! besides its only about 15 things i have liked, but if it was split into sub sections id be able to access what i want even quicker than i can now, if done right.

you can kill kids too! but its immoral! deus ex is the greatest game ever made (not for those reasons) but you gotta look past the graphics. just remember it won over 40 awards and is hailed as the greatest pc game of all time. when in fact its the greatest console game too since it got released on ps2 some time later.

[censored] knows. a few old games had it. but deus ex is all about choices and consequences and its a mature game. the game is designed to react to the players decisions but surprisingly this is one of the few things that the game doesn't react to, well it does once if you kill louis pan but you only get a scolding, no true consequence. well the military bot opens fire if nearby. maybe npcs too not sure.

but im giving the game bad publicity here because the game really is the best ever made, no doubt, child killing aside. besides its just a game no one would kill a child in real life, except a sick psychotic [censored]
