Ideas for Daily Jobs for Players to Take In-game

After playing Fallout New Vegas for awhile, most players should find themselves short on extra caps, so why not do what everyone else in the mojave does? Take a job and earn caps like everyone else.

This idea has come up several times, that is a daily job system that the player can do to earn caps and other rewards, just generic side-quests and western type jobs, you don't save the world, you do what you do have a bit of fun and get paid. The End..

So I've gathered all the ideas from all the forums and tossed in a bunch of my own and thought I'd post the ideas here so we can discuss them.

---------------------------Ideas on Jobs Rules---------------------------

-- Many jobs should require a skill requirement to perform, the skill depending on the job. This is to reward those who invest in certain skills, and helps things make more sense, since someone with 20 medicine skill and 4 INT should not be hired to perform a surgery.

-- Some jobs should only be available after the player has progressed through the game somewhat, So as to avoid level 3 players trying to do jobs that pay large amounts of caps, or that require them to fight deathclaw alphas etc.

-- Perhaps faction specific jobs could be introduced, like slave tamers for the Legion, or Patrolman for the NCR/Brotherhood, and maybe Prospectors for certain towns and things like that.

-- Depending on the players previous jobs, maybe they can work themselves up to harder and more rewarding jobs.

-- A Promotion system was suggested, so after a player does a certain job enough times, then they move up to a new job that is more challenging, and eventually can get special unique rewards for reaching the top of a profession or special items.

-- Special rewards could be job dependant, like for someone who was become very good with medical related jobs then they can then buy http://fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=4558 you can use in battle on companions and NPCs to heal them during a fight.

---------------------------Job Ideas---------------------------

Store Guard -- Like with the Silver Rush. You stand outside of a store/area and confiscate peoples weapons, drugs, items etc.. Making sure undesirables dont enter, this could be customized fairly easily

Drug Dealer -- You are given a Description of the person you are dealing too. Look around the area and make sure you pick the right person (or someone might turn you in) Possibly you may also redeem addicts with high enough skills in various areas for good karma and little rewards like small ups in Reputation etc. Also as an added challenge their may be others looking for you or your target.

Caravan Guard -- You walk with caravans from one of the various companies to its destination, protecting it from harm on the way there. And depending on the players level/skill or the caravans desination different enemies may appear, like a caravan going near Sloan won't encounter super mutants, but may encounter deathclaws. etc.

Casino Bouncer -- Like Store guard except you have to find the problems and handle them, This can be challenging to players as they have to follow House's rules, etc..

Courier -- Similar to the Caravan guard, but you are alone and there is a time limit, and likely you can script more problems for players along the way.

Hunter -- Go out and collect things from certain animals for a settlement or NPC. This could be included in every town and each one could request meat from animals that live in the nearby areas. Similar to Red Dead Redemption. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/295695-new-vegas-hunting-ground/

Prospecter -- Similar to Hunter, but depending on the town the player will be asked to find various generic electronics or modules for a reward.

Medical Assistant -- Take various types of jobs at the different clinics in the wasteland, based on the players skill in Medicine or Survival.

Robotics Tech -- Similar to the Medical Assistant, except it will be based on players Science and Repair skills.

Energy Weapons Tech -- Based on the players skill with such weapons and repairing them, perhaps you can work for the Van Graffs or another energy dealer.

Merchant -- Randomly perhaps in the wasteland you will be approached and asked to sell random items for large amounts of caps, just as an oddity, like a Legionaire buying a teddy bear off you for 3000 caps and running off. or an NCR ranger asking for jet or legion armor.

Scout For Factions -- Explore and Cover a district and report back, without killing anything or killing things like animals using only weapons considered low profile like silenced guns and melee weapons. By Frank Lee

Escort Travelers -- Escorting an NPC who's set to 'passive' to a desintation safely, added challenges could be the travelers are crippled, or may bait you into ambushes, etc.. By Frank Lee

Patrolman -- Patrol Areas for different factions and destroy any intruders from rival factions.

Slaver -- Obviously you can be sent to enslave specific NPCs for various rewards and caps. Legion Only

Slave Breaker/Tamer -- You become the person who teaches the newly enslaved how to obey, the player uses various methods to ensure obedience from different types of slaves, from violence to charisma to certain drugs. Legion Only

Abolitionist -- Opposite of Slaver, a script will enable when the play accepts the job and one of several random locations will appear with slaves to be freed from rogue muties and Legion scum. After the job is turned in the area is disabled so as not to take up space that may conflict with future mods.

Mercenary -- Temporary fight for factions you may not support, of course depending on your actions your actions may affect your reputation with a faction you like.

Raider -- Similar to Mercenary, but instead you are given specific targets or areas to attack and retieve random items to return with.

Infiltraitor -- Depending on the faction you will be hired to infiltrate a rival factions area, and steal something and return without causing conflict, these items could be generic and hard to find.

Cartographer -- Like with Reily's Rangers in Fallout 3 you can recieve some small rewards for exploring areas or having certain map makers.

Herb Collecting -- You collect various plants and herbs for NPCs from towns. The plants should be rather close to the town.

Gravedigger-- In Goodsprings and possibly other towns, you can be hired to bury the various raiders and citizens of the area that have become carrion food. This job will merely cause time to pass like resting, and shouldn't pay much at all, just a beginner job.

Expert Excrement Expeditor -- http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Expert_Excrement_Expeditor, It will be similar to the gravedigger job but with bramhin or bighorner droppings, and after completing it enough times will give you a perk with the same name that gives you a small bonus to your speech skill. (Since by then your player is very familiar with bull sh**, thats the little joke)

If anyone has an cool job ideas, or any ideas on how to get jobs, or rewards for jobs
Post them, since a random idea can be the best idea sometimes. (Like This, not saying its the best but I did this on a whim)

I just added a thread link to the "hunter job" under job ideas, I'd suggest readers also look at that thread to expand on that idea.

I also linked this thread on the http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/269957-post-here-if-you-need-voice-actors-for-mods-or-if-youd-offer-your-voice/page__st__50 since there is so many willing to voice this idea I felt they may find something there that they'd voice as well.

Currently no one has done ANY work on this idea, so any modders out there, you are welcome to take this.
I'd love for someone to work on this.

Just kind of a proof of concept that these really would make enjoyable gameplay...

Just one single job from this list can be a huge and popular mod by itself.

For Example:

Bounty Hunter
Meet with various NPCs and take assignments or targets, certain targets may be difficult to kill via certain conditions to complete, high level and equipment, or by misdirecting the player with charisma and dialog. After completing an assignment the player returns and recieves various types of payment or rewards.

A relatively simple description yes?

Yet http://www.newvegasnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=37310 is one of the top mods at Nexus and has been for quite some time.

This is something I just realized but still it now shows the extent that the Daily Jobs ideas can go.

Scavenger -- (Perception/Survival/Lockpick)
Not the most innovative job, but there's always something of value between the junk, and why not trade all those spare parts to engineers, military, farmers etc.?

Doctor -- (Medicine/Survival/Science)
Similar to Medical Assistant, but better educated in Medicine, Survival and Science. You can open up a your own surgery or clinic (there are lots of unused buildings). The Wasteland is a harsh place, with lots of threats and many ways to get injured, so you will never run out of customers.

Sheriff/Mayor -- (Guns/Speech)
You're responsible for a single settlement temporarily. Might be an interesting job if the town is constantly threatened by marauding raider gangs and fiends. Hey, even the locals could be criminals, stay on the look-out! (This actually ties in with Redding From Fallout 2)

Caravaneer -- (Barter/Survival/Endurance)
Keep your brahmins in line and deliver large amounts of goods from A to B. The longer the way, the higher the risk, the bigger the payment! Hire better Caravan guards and buy more pack-brahmins as your career develops.

Cardshaper -- (Agility/Luck/Speech)
Win a fortune by cheating in card games.

I think most if not all of these ideas, as well as the SW90's ideas are possible with good scripting.

Animal Tamer/Trader -- (Charisma,Strength, and Survival)
Kind of like the Slave breaker/tamer, this job could be about finding certain animals that people have requested and taming them as a pet, then you would have a choice of keeping or selling said animal for a sizable amout.(dependant on difficulty of animal)

Casino Owner -- (Barter,Speech, maybe perception to catch cheaters)
This job could put you in the position of a casino owner for the day or permenantly after casino specific quests have been done. Your objective is to make sure things are running smooth, i.e, alert gaurds of troublemakers, cheaters or any unsavoury types, send out for additional supplies or possibly oversee a game or two.

Smuggler -- (Charisma,Barter,perception, possibly luck)
Someone has approached you from a faction and asked you to smuggle something through another factions checkpoint to a specific person or place. You need to have high speech to talk your way through and perception so you know if your going to be spotted out and have to make a quick getaway.

Saboteur -- (Sneak, Lockpick, Explosives, even Science perhaps)

Like scout/infiltrator, Sneak into the said faction's camp/base and plant bugs inside key points, or even maybe tamper with supplies.
Perhaps a script that fails the mission if you are spotted or if you engage in combat with the said faction, and maybe even a patrol scripted around the area of your objective.

Supplier / Craftsman / Cook -- (Any thing that relates to gathering materials and then making something with it)

Gather the needed materials and craft something to fulfill a "order." Could be given out by camps looking for some extra supplies, or shops looking for a supplier for specific good. Among these lines, maybe even store-owner.

Minefield Specialist -- (Explosives, Repair, And Possibly Sneak)

Either planting minefields defenses or disabling them, could be though-out various locations between two opposing camps. Could add the possibility of a ambush testing what defenses you did manage to set up, or chasing you away form whats left the of the mines. It could also be something to add the Mercenary/raider type jobs, like setting up traps or portable bear traps.

Here are some ideas from other places to add to discussion.

Blacksmith: Build weapons and armor to specific details for the gun runners or crimson caravan. Addional caps may be rewarded for completion time of contract and quality of goods.

Pest Exterminator (Guns/Melee/Exlosives)
Grab a flamer and burn the pesky critters! You go into the sewers beneath settlements, and also to nearby caves. Of course you will have to exterminate the occasional feral ghoul horde or other creatures that threaten the community. Hire employees if the amount of pests is beginning to get out of control.

Armorer (Repair/Science)
Use animal hide and worn clothes/leather to make new clothes and leather armors. Use scrap metal to make metal armor, and so on. Develop your skill until you are able to build Power Armors.

Arms Manufacturer (Repair/Science/Guns/Explosives/Energy Weapons)
Create new weapons from broken ones and spare parts. Develop your skill until you are able to make advanced weaponry and weapon mods.

Beggar (Speech)
Pass speech checks to sponge off the rich.

Revolutionary (Charisma/Speech)
Gather enough people around you to finally destroy the establishment! Get rid of Mr House, King, and all others who are in charge.

Entertainer (Charisma/Speech)
Tour around the Strip's casinos to earn money by entertaining the bored people. Be a comedian, a musician, a dancer or even a magician. Of course there are people who won't like your performances, so you have to train your skills to be a superstar. You will have to hire bodyguards to fight off crazed fans, stalkers, and the photographers which have been mentioned in the previous post.

Photographer: Take photos of events for people and also sell various photos of landmarks. There can be a shady side to this as well like taking photos of people for blackmail.

Troop Trainer - Maybe you are not the greatest soldier, but you can teach your collegues a trick or two. Train them so they can open that can of whoop-ass!

NCR Soldier (30 guns, 25 explosives, 35 repair, 40 survival)
I think it would be enjoyable to enlist as a soldier. Some form of basic training, then you serve a tour of duty which may consist of patroling, fighting, etc.
If possible it'd be nice to be able to advance in rank, to cololel, major, seargent, ranger etc. I understand this would be very complicated but very worthwile. You are judged
by efficeny and subordinance, and if you have exceptional guns, repair, and explosives skills, you may be drafted into the Rangers.

Heres a some new ones I thought up while working on a mod for placeable traps and triggers.

Trapper
Similar to hunter, your job is to capture and kill various animals in ways that allow people to use them to the fullest, as a trapper your skills allow you to retrieve things like skins and more meat that would be ruined if the animal was killed by gunfire or melee combat.

Ambush Setup Mercanary
Your job is simple but cruel, you must design and set the traps to ensure the most damage to an oncoming patrol of an enemy faction. You pay is dependant on the damage and death you inflict with your set-up. At your disposal are grenade bouquets, tripwires, bear traps, and land mines.

Why not make "Quarry Junction' into a working mining outpost for the betterment of the NCR again.
The NCR could ask you to assist in retaking the quarry by first hunting down all the Deathclaws (survival), and then slowly restore the quarry to working order.
You might have to supply materials scrap metal ect and use repair to restore and make stuff, and intelligence and science to activate and calibrate the mining sensors/machinery ect
Eventually the cement they are making again could be used for something other then hover dam.
Maybe even making some outposts allong the road to new vegas.

NCR functionary (Speech/Barter):
Work as a bureaucrat in one the NCR goverment branches. Negotiate with settlements (to annex towns like Novac, Goodsprings etc.), gather taxes, take bribes (for agreeing to dispatch more troops to provide "protection" for annexed towns (or any other kind of help, you name it; or for providing more convinient condition for NCR corporation like Crimsom Caravan or Van Graffs). Literally - it's an inexhaustable source of such scenarios. Remember Enoch Johnson, who controlled everyone in Atlantic City? Yeah, he's also a functionary (a high-ranked one). And who said that a goverment official should be skillful only in his verbal abilities?

NCR Ranger(Guns/Stealth/Explosives/Science (depending on the role))

Before you say it's the same as soldier - think twice. Rangers are a separate branch of armed forces, so called "creme de la creme", and hence, the best fighting force NCR can put against the Legion and the Brotherhood. Somehow, however, these guys are mostly represented only as "these uber-l33t guys wearing military-grade pre-war riot-police hardened armor with helmets with glowing eyes!!!11" in minds of most casual gamers. But what about other rangers out there, who don't own these fancy items, but still perform "the ordinary routine duty", which could easily kill any other ordinary soldier? It's time to correct this unfairness and change their overall image.

If you're in really good relations with NCR and managed to complete all offered missions for local rangers on the Mojave Outpost, you can try and enlist into their ranks (possibly with a speech check). You begin as a trainee (unless you completed more missions for NCR military), and get a task to test your skills (like the ability to sneak, sniper skills, handle computers etc.). If you're able to perform most of this task, then you're lucky to become a proud member of a friendly ranger family. As this mod aims to show the daily duties of diffirent professions, then I suggest to focus on showing the tasks of lower rank rangers (like the ones who're are stationed in Station Foxtrot, out of the Legion's harms way - they still have their own tasks, which were pretty much omitted). The key is to make your own carreer within this organisation, heading up from Mojave Outpost straight to the Camp Golf, but before you should get transferred through all other stations and solve problems they have there.

The rough progress should look like:

Mojave outpost, where you receive the initial civilian outfit of the ranger (along with hat, a brand-new lever-action rifle for which you get mods as a reward for completing the missions) and glasses (quests here: battling with wildlife, elimination of Jackals and their leaders, training caravaneers to protect themselves etc.)->

Station Foxtrot (scouting around Khans territory and specifically the Red Rock Canyon, killing their drug couriers (or even foil their deals with buyers from Fiends), keep an eye on the nearby Vault 22 ( for example, by stopping the breakthrough of the wildlife and abominations which breed and spawn there) and the ski lodge (negotiate with Marcus to hunt down rogue Nightkins, who escaped the treatment and became dangerous) ->

Transfer to one of battlefront stations (where you're issued a set of ranger combat armor and a trail carbine) where you'll have to take care of radio-equipment (that's where you'll need science or repair skills), track down and destroy Legion frumentarii teams, ravage legion supply lines (by hunting for Legion-protected caravans), capture prisoners for interrogation or recruitment (strengh attribute check (for torturing) or speech skills (for verbal solutions)) etc.->

Camp Golf, where you finally become a veteran ranger, get your own Veteran armor, Ranger Sequoia and Brush Gun (with upgrades, if you make it compatible with WMX). Possible tasks for this place may include deep raids behind the enemy lines (will require some expansions of the eastern part of the map), destroying their raid camps, killing centurions etc. At this point you can also get a position of new station Charlie commander with the task to recruit a new team of rangers and restore the devastated outpost.

P.S.: I specially mentioned Station Foxtrot as a place, that I think has more potential, but was left simply undone by Obsidian. The mountain sector of the map deserves more mysteries and more quest to complete. So do the ordinary, civilian looking rangers.

Detective - Being hired by settlements to settle matters of law breaking, Finding out Who "dunnit!", collecting evidence, Puzzles etc. Killing People and the like. Sherlock Holmes of the Wastes.

Seriously, if these could be intergrated into a mod it would be one of the best things ever, Imagine the Immersion. it would be incredible. Too bad I cant mod at all :whoops:

I liked your ideas SoggyWaffle, but I've padded them up a bit, hopefully this way they sound more exciting, I tried to keep it in your words as much as possible.

Assassin - An evil alternative to the Bounty Hunter class, the player recieves contracts to stealthily kill targets with as little conflict as possible. Targets should be rich important people that can be killed when there are alone in a hotel room or home. The killing could be close range with silenced weapons or melee or even sniping from a building from across the street or long enough distances. These contracts could work sort of like Oblivion's Dark Brotherhood, with promotions, unique equipment and other rewards.

Battlefield Medic - You help injured soldiers on the battlefield. This would obviously require medical skill and possibly survival since battlefield medicene isn't tip-top, you'd also have to be a defent combatant to accept the job. Could be a medic for a militia, NCR, The Legion, etc., You could participate in both skimishes and large battles for various factions.

Someone just uploaded a new outfit in the works, don't you all think it'd be a great outfit for a medic?

Since I finally found a way to compress the list I'm putting my list of backstories on here to inspire some more job ideas.

Well I made a list of backstory traits for a mod awhile back but it never made it past the idea phase, So I'll post it here and you can use it to give you ideas for more jobs

Spoiler

I just made a huge list of backstory perks that could be altered for use if someone wanted, most are simply edited from another game made by the Fallout team after they went out of business back in the 90's.

While playing a game called 'Arcanum' that the Fallout guys made after Black Isle went under. I found a lot of the character backstory choices were pretty cool, so I thought I'd post the ones I felt could be used with New Vegas and I've edited them to Fallout terms and things.

Afraid Of The Dark
You cannot stand to be in the dark. You stay constantly aware of your surroundings, peering into dim corners and dark shadows to see if something is there. While this has raised your Perception by 2, you will suffer a panic attack if you are in too dark an area, leading to losses in Agility and Intelligence, but you do gain +2 to Strength from the fear.

Arsonist
You like fire. No, you LOVE fire! Fire fire fire! You were always picked on as a kid for being scrawny (-1 Strength and -1 Endurance) but you showed them! You studied explosives (+20 Explosives) and you burned their homes! Burned them to the ground! Ha ha! Then you ran away from home and became a courier for the Mojave Express.

Tribal
You were raised among a wild barbarian tribe in the east. No one knows how or why you came to be a courier, but given your ferocious demeanor, no one tried to find out. You gain +2 Strength and +1 Constitution and incresed skills in both unarmed and melee combat, while suffering -2 Intelligence, -2 Charisma, and a significant loss in speech due to your origins.

Beat with an Ugly Stick (Straight from the game, thats Fallout humor for you)
You are Ugly. There is just no other word for it, unless you consider extemely hideous as better. Children flee from you in terror and even the kindest of souls finds it difficult to stand your presence for long. As a result, you take an extreme penalty to Charisma (-5), but, because you have to defend yourself from frequent attacks, you gain a bonus to Strength (+2), Dexterity (+2) and all of your Combat Skills.

Escaped Lunatic (Gary?....)
You have escaped from a vault, but your experiences there have left your mind in pieces, You killed a courier shortly after exiting the vault and took all of his belongings and clothes and were mistaken as him, you were then forced to take the job you killed him during. You are extremely resistant to damage (+25% to normal resistance) and most people sense that something about you is wrong. (Charisma -2)

Frankenstein Monster
You were reanimated by a mad scientist from various body parts he found at gravesites, but somehow you escaped from the laboratory. You were quickly captured by slavers, but set free by abolishtionist and given a courier job at the Mojave Express. You are very well constructed (Strength +4, Endurance +4, Poison Resistance +20), but you are very slow (Agility -5) with a damaged brain-larynx connection (you use dumb dialog options) and have a susceptibility to energy weapons.

Girly Man (Originally called Ladies Man)
Women swoon whenever they are near you. Being unusually good-looking, you gain a large bonus to Charisma (+4) and naturally have the Lady Killer perk. Unfortunately, all that primping and dieting has you lacking in the more manly virtues...you lack in Endurance (-2), Strength (-2) and Agility (-2).

A Freaking Miracle
A gunshot to the face isn't the worst thing you've survived through, Your life is simple a long list of injuries that are normally fatal including being eaten by a giant deathclaw, and violated by mutants. As such your luck is awful (-5) you critical fail more often and become crippled much easier due to previous injuries, however "what doesn't kill you..." so your endurance, strength, and agility are all much better than those of normal wastelanders (+3 to each)

Sold Your Soul
You made a pact with a strange red intelligent deathclaw named Lucifer. In exchange, you have dedicated your life to the pursuit of evil. You gain +2 to all SPECIAL, but you can never learn skills that may help others, people also naturally hate and dislike you, and once chosen you are never offered choices that bring good to the world (and your alignment can NEVER go higher than evil).

Technophobia
You were raised in a community that shunned all tech from pre-war times, thus your skills related to the use of such technology suffer, and you cannot operate energy weapons, however due to your upbringing you can operate simple guns and tech with extreme precision.

Amazon
You were raised in a vault with only women, males were killed off and reproduction was done using insemination with the Vault computer. You fear and distrust men, as such you suffer a speech loss when speaking to a man but do 30% more damage to all male enemies, with women your extremely persuasive and intelligent, and if you have female followers they were have increase damage and health.

Amnesiac
The bullet didn't leave you unscathed, it hit your center of short-term memory. As such, you only remember up until someone shot you. As such your intellect can never increase, but people find you interesting and enigmatic. (Charisma bonus)

Horseman of The Apocolypse
Before being shot, you had just arrived on Earth, You were to bring forth the apocolypse and cleanse the planet, only you were 200 years late. You are naturally skilled and powerful, however due to your inhierent nature and looks, humans dislike you and interactions are normally negitive or even violent, your intellect also suffers due to your lack of knowledge about the new world.

Assassin
You were sent to kill the influential leader of New Vegas. Your people come from an old society from before the Great war, you recieved combat training since birth, yet you are so focused that your skills in non-violent areas are almost non-existant. You also cannot use weapons larger than rifles or sniper rifles since an assassin never uses ungainly armaments.

Chosen One
You think your the Chosen one, that one day you will save the Mojave from a great evil, your time as a courier was only your most recent way of funds, you have trained and improved yourself for many years by spending caps and traveling. However, apparantly in California there had already been a Chosen One, years of constant hysteric laughing from everybody around you have made you very bitter. You lose Charisma and Luck, and suffer with social skills, but gain in many other skills.

Daredevil
You do not feel fear, you feel good! The closer you are to death the better you feel. After learning about the dangers of the wasteland you left your home in search of excitement, you may not be as charming or smart as others but who needs a brain to ran naked through a deathclaw nest? You gain bonus' to both luck and endurance but your looks and mind have suffered from your many exploits.

Escaped Slave
You escaped the Legions grasp several years ago, However you never stopped running, you became a courier in an attempt to work your way west where there is no slavers. However, it seems that the west will have to wait a little longer.

Mad Scientist
"Your insane!" This is a common greating you recieve, while others call you mad and insane, you see nothing wrong with spraying your enemies with a spray that makes male deathclaws think that they are female deathclaws wanting to mate (To horrid results for the one who is sprayed)

Explorer
You can't stay still, the time you spent buried was likely the longest time you've been in one place, your a wanderer, an explorer, drifter. Your agility and endurance are heightened by your wanderlust by your strength and intellect have gotten dull with lack of use.

Gunslinger
Do you feel lucky? From an early age, your were forced to watch things called "westerns" by the vault computer once a day. You were traded by your vault to the Mojave express as a sign of diplomacy, since then you've trained in antique armaments and learned survival skills. Your Survival is maxed and your small guns is increased, however your perciption and charisma have been affected due to your vault's special upbringing.

Hunter
Your at home outdoors. You have hunted and killed abominations from the east to the Mojave, you can't eat pre-war foods but benifit from meats and herbs instead, your an expert in most weapons but cannot use energy weapons well due to their uselessness for hunting,

Lone Wolf
You have always been alone, left by your parents at 4, you learned to rely only on yourself. Your skills are much better than those of socialized peoples, however your interactions with others are stained at best and you can have no human followers. (the only ones who will follow are Lily because shes crazy, Rex, and ED-E)

Military Scientist
Born into the Enclave you were given education, nutrition, and technology. Your prowess at developing weapons of war were unsurpassed in the organization, you are the architect of modern enclave power armor. However you were betrayed and nearly killed by the people who raised you, as you ran from the Enclave you became a courier to keep on the move. Due to your past you have access to unique crafting options, your science and repair are maxed, however your sheltered upbringing does you no favors in the wastes so your strength, endurance, perciption, and radiation resistance suffer.

Possesed
One night you woke to a fiery deathclaw at the foot of your bed, you fired upon it to no effect as it entered your body. Since that nightmare you've found you enjoy evil acts, and you constantly hear distorted whispers of murder and fire. Your job as a courier was a cover for you to murder and rampage while constantly on the move. Your alignment can never be good, you automatically have the snadman perk and cannibal perk, taking this causes the players eyes to turn completely black and lowers charisma by 2.

Revolutionary
You are originally from New Vegas, you lived in a great vault, but forced out with the rise of New Vegas, due to the gunshot wound your memory of the vault and your looks are altered. However in the back of your mind you know that with you, comes a new era in New Vegas, you are revolution.

Alien Observer
You aren't a true human, but an alien whose spaceship crashed, while you were observing a ship known as Zeta which was crewed by evil members of your race. Using the last remnants of your ships working technology, you changed yourself into one of the natives. The transformation wasn't perfect, leaving you a bit ugly (-2 charisma) but also keeping your original eyesight, which is better than average (+2 perception). You also rescued a schematic for a gun from your homeworld. You know very few things about Earth, so you are quite confused most of the time (penalty to speech) and you are adept at using and repairing guns (+1 Repair, +2 Firearms). Moreover, your former race has a very advanced technology (science and energy weapons increase)

Dimensional Traveller
The wasteland is certainly not your home. You come from a world with magic and monsters, you arrived here a year ago and learned that magic doesn't not exist here, and that there are only humans in this world, no dragons, dungeons, or orcs. You took on a job as a messenger in hopes of traveling the land in search for a way home. Due to your circumstances you have not yet adjusted to this new world, and so your skills suffer.

Yeah that looks great! I haven't been looking around too hard but is somebody working on this, or is it still an idea?

I really like the idea of working for the Gun Runners and finding parts for them to make weapons, they have to get their supplies somewhere, right, you could go look for old blueprints to make new super weapons and all that good stuff.

Store Owner By Blake81 -- It would be kind of similar to the Casino Owner job,the skills needed would be Barter,Speech and and a third skill that would vary depending on the kind of shop it is.

You can come across empty generic buildings and using a system similar to RTS, you can upgrade it's appearance and select the type of shop it should be and how it should be set up.

Other possible additions to the idea could be:

You work as the clerk for a time at the beginning, scripted generic NPCs appear as customers similar to those from the quest at the silver rush. You choose to hire one as your replacement, however you can chose wrong and lose money or be ambushed.

You would have to protect it from thieves, counterfeiters or unfriendly competition.

You would have to make contracts with the main dealers(Gun Runners for Guns and ammo,Crimsom Caravan for Food and Water, the Great Khans for Chems and Meds, etc),

However you have to be careful about you're store's placement,it has to be near some major travel route or settlement,as no one will travel to the middle of nowere to buy a bottle of water.

Well it seems that this thread has finally inspired a mod, mainly a mod around the 'Hunter' Job type, Called New Vegas Hunting Grounds.

"Hunter -- Go out and collect things from certain animals for a settlement or NPC. This could be included in every town and each one could request meat from animals that live in the nearby areas. Similar to Red Dead Redemption."

Currently a team is still being pieced together but I know the team leader and can say he's an excellent modder (unlike me) and they've already got some work done apparantly.

So If anyone would like to check in on thier progress from time to time or volunteer to help create such a mod then check this thread, as well as these other threads.

http://www.thenexusforums.com/index.php?/topic/295695-new-vegas-hunting-ground/ -- That I hijacked later on and converted into a thread with every single creature idea ever concieved for Fallout by developers or by forum users.

All of these ideas are still ideas only, as far as I'm aware no modder has used this concept, I mean I believe that pieces of these ideas have made their way into mods. Like in the newest version, there is a hunting virtual reality thing inside DantheGeeks Underground Hideout mod, and here in the forums AllenOcelot is working on a large mod called "New Vegas Hunting Grounds" based on the thread linked under the hunter job description.

But other than those two which may not even be related to this, then no this is still up for grabs to modders and is not being made as far as I know, but I find resources from time to time and post them up anyways.

In Ultimatum, you can enslave people and send them to the Legion or the NCR if they are criminals... ;)

I
Well I could add people for both Legion and NCR who will pay you for each prisoner.
There are a lot of ideas in this thread, I don't know what to add :-/

* Veterinary
Heal people's pets and other animals

* Orphanage's Boss
Lead a small insitution which would help Wasteland's childhood to find decent parents

* School Professor
Self explaining, depends on your skills

Actually all three of those are new ideas, so you got 3/3 my friend.

I'll expand on them right away to fit the format of the thread.

Veterinarian Medicene, Survival, and Perhaps at times you'll need to sneak.
Snuffles was only the beginning of your job, You are given missions from towns to find, heal, and capture important animals for the settlement. At times you may find youself trying to safely tranquilize an angry bighorner in order to perform medical assistance, and other times you may find that "pet" is a very general term in the Wasteland. (Perhaps you find a legion guy has a hurt "pet" slave. "Pet" deathclaws)

Orphanage Owner Karma, Speech, Barter?
Similar to a slave trader... Kidding, You can come into semi-ownership of a structure known as an "Or-fan-age" from pre-war times, the current owner is a good soul but not the brightest.
This could introduce interesting ideas into the game, it could be taken in a Bioshock direction with creepy children, to selling them to the legion, or finding families to take in children as you travel the wastes. Perhaps even a companion can show up in the form of an older orphan who will mirror your character as much as possible (You wear legion armor, then they'll wear some, if you tend to use plasma weapons then they'll specialize in energy weapons, etc.)

School Professor Any and all skills.
You are given a chance to influence young minds for a time, this could be in a rebuilt school in Goodsprings, the Boomer School, or perhaps the courier establishes schools in settlements in different ways. At each school your given a certain number of students and your given a choice to teach them about different skills of yours (Guns, Survival, Sneak, Repair, etc.) and depending on what you teach will influence the behaviors and appearance of the kids, as well as reputation with that faction (If you try to teach boomers about melee weapons, then you'll be disliked since they only love explosives and guns.) Also the kids will ask random questions which can have different effects depending on your answer...(As a funny example...."Teacher, Why do people kill each other?....One answer the player may take is "Because everyone hates you.....[kid crys], sit down and shut up brat!") Oh so horrible yet funny.
