ill spent skill points

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 11:08 am

ok so at the very early stages of my new char, which is a sneaky blacksmith assassin. i threw a couple of skill points in the wrong dirrection. now i know there is no way to reset them, but i wanna know if in the future there is a one time resest or like a level de progression thing that beth is thinking about?

its driving me crazy i have three skill points that are on my tree that are useless. i dont get why there was never an option for this. i know a lot of other people have had this issue as well!!!!!!!!!!arggggg

And all your quests, inventory, relationships, and shouts. It's epic.

That said, if you're playing on PC, do this:
1. Open the console.
2. Use help "perk name" to get the codes for the perk you want to remove.
3. Use player.removeperk perk_code to remove each misplaced perk. This does NOT restore your spent perk points.
4. Find the perks you actually want (step 2 again..)
5. Use player.addperk perk_code to apply each new perk.

If you're playing on PS3 or 360, there's no solution. :P

I kinda' wasted a few perk points on my 1st character because there was some confusion over Block skills so I used the Oghma Infinium glitch to quickly gain 3 levels to recover the perk points. That's the closest thing I can come up with as a solution.

A few mispent perk points shouldn't ruin an entire character. I always spend some perk points early in the game on things that I know will only help me right now but won't serve much purpose later on--Pickpocket comes to mind. But it does make the first 10-20 levels in the TG so much easier. I once spent 4 perks in the Speech Tree yet somehow my character was still able to become just as powerful as any other I'd ever created. I'd never do it again but it wasn't the end of the world.

Yeah, same thing happened to me. I spent few points in Heavy Armor. Then I decided to go light armor and invested some points to Light Armor skill tree. Then I changed my mind again and went back to Heavy Armor. So, I just live with it. If I change my mind again maybe it will come in useful. I doubt it though. I just do not like the look of any light armor anymore. I don't even like the look of Scaled Armor. I used to love Elven Armor. Not any more.

I blame the Thalmor. I just feel dirty wearing it. :P I love the look of the Glass armor because of the way the malachite catches the light, but I feel Thalmor-ish wearing it.

I thought about doing it to "catch up" to where i should be on my skills. but i thought it was patched.
im not saying my char is ruined either, i mean its not a huge deal. but it would be a big help to have another 20% on sneak and a stronger bow.

i was kidding in my second post...

I find it rather amusing that Todd himself said that one reason they took away classes is that people would realize several levels into the game that they picked the wrong Major skills and can't reset them. So they removed them.

Now the same thing is happening with Perks.

Following Todd's logic the next TES game will have us all playing a blue rock named Joe that bumps into things to level up and that leveling up will automatically increase the only skill we have ... bumping.

Maybe I'm a little nuts, but a small part of me thinks that maybe, just maybe, people ought to be allowed to make a few mistakes so they can learn from them. Simplification isn't always the right answer. Life doesn't have an 'Undo' button.

See? This my main complaint about Skyrim: we're railroaded into everything and in VI we won't even be able to choose the gender or name of our rock?!?!? :swear:

FWIW I wouldn't have lost any sleep if I hadn't been able to recover those perks because I got all the way to 53 before I used the Oghma Infinium to recover the perks. I mostly wanted them to play around with something - light armor side of the Smithing constellation maybe? I don't recall.

I chose a few perks in Fallout 3 that I would've liked to have reset, but, again, I didn't lose any sleep over it.

All-in-all paying NPCs to reset skill trees isn't unheard of, though.

I'm really OCD, so on my first character (before I got PC Skyrim/console access) when I was like "OH GOD MY TALENT TREES ARE ALL WRONG" I almost had a panic attack then just rerolled. ._.

I wouldn't worry about it. Someone will make a mod that will let you rename your rock, maybe even change the color but that might be stretching it.

Of course doing a reset isn't unheard of, but if it is unlimited resets you can see how easily that would be abused. Course then comes the argument of how can you abuse a single player game? I want to set all my perks for warrior and join the companions, then reset them all and join the college, then reset them again and join the thieves guild, etc. Honestly it wouldn't be long before I'd be wishing I was pushing a rock around.

yea but its not real life, its a game and i wanna do what i want inside that game.

granted you can join mages, thieves, killers, companions, ect with little to no perks in each. but i think if im 75+ hours into a char and i feel that over the 75+ hours my char needs to make a change. i should be able to make it. i dont think i should be able to do it over and over. but i do think there at least should be a 1 time thing per char.

They could make it exponentially more expensive each time. That would also solve the problem of people complaining that "money is useless in Skyrim".

Exactly. If I'm viewing my character walking along in 3rd person whilst wearing Elven Armor I keep thinking, "Hey, I need to kill that person like right now!"

I hate the look of glass armor. If Liberace played Skyrim that's what all his characters would wear. He'd also probably have found a mod that would allow his guys to wear 10 gigantic rings.

FWIW, I converted a pure mage that only wore robes at level 36 or thereabouts into a sneaky thief/assassin in surprisingly short order. I think by level 50 he'd become proficient in archery, sneaking, and one handed. Of course I had to augment that time with some magicka but by the time I retired him, he could easily stand alone without any magic use whatsoever.

 Yep. Kinda' like when Mjoll and I get separated in Dwemer ruins (ie I jump off of something and she takes the long way around) and she comes running up to me in her Falmer armor. Oh $***!!1!

Oh, come on now, you know it's Faaabulous! FWIW even if I could get past the Thamor thing I could never wear Elven or Glass on a dude.

Great minds think alike. My new character is going light armor and I'm resigned to the fact that Glass is going to be the best I can do (besides Dragonscale way down the road). Therefore said new character is a female Breton.

Well, I have Mjoll decked out in Falmer armor (because it's the sixiest heavy armor in the game) so that's why I see it. :P She ran up again today and startled the $*** out of me. :o

You don't have to settle for Glass. I can craft any leather-based armor past the cap with my Smithing at 100, Enchanting at 100 (to make Fortify Smithing and Alchemy gear), and Alchemy at 100 with all the beneficial perks (+120% Fortify Smithing potion). So if you don't mind leveling those skills you can get even Fur and Forsworn (my chick's primary armor) past the cap. Well, she also has Agile Defender 5/5, Custom Fit, and Matching Set. OK, so it's not easy, but it's possible.

I wish I could get Muiri to wear Glass Armor she'd probably look all small and cute. :P

We briefly discussed this in another thread, I believe.

It is something that should happen. Make it REALLY expensive and even MORE expensive each new time. Like, 100k to start and a bump of 50k each successive time. That way, even if it's still relatively easy to get money, you'll at least have to take some time to gather it all up. I'm just now getting to the "money is no object" stage of the game and that equates to about 116k (I stored away my Masque of Clavicus Vile and went ahead and sold my Necklace of Peerless Haggling -- neither of them are essential to this character anymore), so getting to reset my perk points would set me very far back. Would I then have the means to get up to 150k if I needed to do it again for some reason? Sure... but it would take a LONG time and might not even be worth it... which means that's a good system.
