Ill tell ya whats wrong with this game

The sound direction is very well done. I can tell when to relax when the music goes from all STAR TREK on me to gental soothing rewarding music with an emotion that sounds like; "You''re good now."

Im Really not that far into the game, But I dig driving the Cuprino. I have it all pimped out. Thanks ID.

I have to agree. Whoever did the sound should win an Oscar or something. The music, the voice acting, the sound effects, are all beyond perfect. The sounds the mutants make floor me every time.

Agreed the sound was excellent, loved the Sentry Bot noises, especially when it was me and two of them fighting in the Blue Line, good stuff! :gun:

Another Thing that is noteworthy and worth sharing to the... "masses"; is something I keep being reminded of as I continue playing RRRRRRAGE....
It is simply the fact that this game plays out like it was quite literally...... a childs game.
But there are very disturbing corpsified deposits and the like that are surely aimed at a much more mature audience.
This contradiction is just plain odd
I was wondering if the consumers or even the game testers had any thoughts on that they would like to share?

Oh yes I almost forgot.
See http://http://theoatmeal.com/comics/semicolon for notes on proper use of the Semi-colon. Discuss.

My first impression was they bought the rights to some child's racing game and just added their usual shot guns and monsters. I think Carmack has been spending too much time playing console games with his little boy.

On closer examination it looks like they decided to do some serious experimentation by throwing everything but the kitchen sink into the game and pounding away at it until they got a game that worked. RPG elements, dynamics like the defibrillator, etc. are all new for id. They were stuck in a rut of running down hallways, shooting monsters, and running some more with little else happening. With the graphics improvements going on it was beginning to resemble playing a ray traced version of pong and they definitely needed to figure out new things they could do to expand on what they already do so well. I can see them continuing to experiment with Rage 2, and passing some of the benefits of what they learn onto other games like Doom.

I'd say that's accurate and very intentional; this is the kind of FPS that id have always done. Fast-paced, slightly hyperactive, a little cartooney, a little arcadey, and with a hefty dollop of nastiness stirred in.

I thought the title of this post was "Ill tell ya whats wrong with this game." First time I have ever seen a thread technically disqualified by being off topic in the the first post....I don't get it.

Interesting impression.
When I say, RAGE plays out like a 'Childs game'...I mean to say its certain things like how everyone in town is super nice to you from the start and BTW thinks you are awesome.
(Like a child should ever have to experience the opposite...my god.)
Take for example the fact that when you flip your car over, it flips itself back over for you. Magically.
Oh, and when it breaks down and you are in the middle of a fire fight you can just pause the game and call for a tow and you are back at home 100% ready to go in an instant. Kids do not want to deal with the reality of that kind of situation.
OH, how about when you bring Kvasir that toxin and the 2 robot arms are nipping at each other over who gets to take it. The Fuhk is this, Pixar?
This game certainly isn't bad, but it is more or less a bunch of rushed excuses so you can get to do awesome stuff.

Also, the sniper rifle is actually getting used a lot. This is the first game that I have been able to put miles on that trigger. Great work on that too ID.

tl;dr
Examples of why its a kids game and the sniper rifle rocks

Exactly, it is an odd mixture of a five year old's driving game, but with a lot of cussing, blood, and guts thrown in. Some of the characters like the mayor of Wellspring even look like something you would find in a toddler's video game. They don't just act friendly, they look like they should be on Sesame Street. Its just about as strange a juxtaposition as they get and I don't mean that as a compliment. I think Carmack was spending too much time playing consoles games with his little boy at the time.

In my opinion run-n-gun shooters like this are in the same general category as action flicks. With this much blood and guts and cussing what all those 30 second quest dialogues in between all the action require is more humor and one linears. Sheriff Black is about the best of the bunch for a nice dry sense of humor, but the others need serious work. Its not Shakespeare or even Star Wars and any good B movie needs at least a sense of humor if the dialogue is that broken up into pieces.

Hadn't actually noticed it, but some one liners would eb awesome. But don't you get the feeling that the guy at the table with the knife (five finger fillet) is just a tad creepy. I try to stay clear of him  I think there should be more characters like that.

I liked the robots nipping at each other... I thought it was really random, but I love Monty Python and other bizare stuff like that, so guess that kinda appealed to that side of me.

And the title of the topic threw me off as well. I expected to see something along the lines of "RAGE is bad because..." and instead got compliments (i think) for it. :unsure2:

The RPG element [note the singular use of the term] of RAGE relates choosing the sequence of missions and the townspeople serve as interface to that end of the game. I highly appreciate the Occam's Razor approach the development team took in producing that end of the game but I wish that every NPC had a quest to give, then that end of gameplay would feel equally as well thought out as combat.

First I have to say that I haven't played this game but I'm intrested about it.

Thing what bother me (and if I have undertood it right) there ain't proper CO-OP like Borderlands has.
It seems quite similiar as Borderlands and that's why I'm intrested about this game but I liked to play Campaing with my wife or with my friends.
If that Co-Op is just few things concerning about some "rumour" at Campaing mode it's not what I was looking for.

Pleae tell me if I'm wrong, and sorry about my bad english. =)

Christian Antkow was the audio lead on Rage. Odd, as I don't think it's his background. He's been at id for some years and has been involved in other areas of development / support.

Anyway, a job well done by Christian and his team.
