Important Information: Deleting Inactive Users

Post » Tue Jun 21, 2011 5:01 pm

Just a head's up that we'll be removing inactive accounts from the forum database this week. If you know someone who has an account and hasn't logged into it in the last two years (as of June 2009), feel free to let them know their account could be deleted this week.

Is there any way to search for old members by name? I want to see if somebody I haven't seen post. in a while still has an account, and when it was last active. I searched the forums using his name but turned up nothing.

Does that mean we'll never see surprise returns of ancient inactive accounts? Awww... Love it when a 00'er comes out of nowhere suddenly. :P

Ah reminds me a bit of those chain letters that people always used to send out on Myspace. Deleting your account unless you reply!

My favorite of those was an email one I used to get all the time: Facebook is going to start charging us money to use the site!!! Send this to ten people and they'll change their minds!!!eleventytwo!

Quickly! Somebody find Fonger!

I felt kinda sorry for the ones that lost all their avatars in the forum upgrade. So many awesome avatars lost.

I suppose this means a few of my most worthy opponents are going to be deleted then... shame.

Go http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/members/, click "Use advanced filters", put in name, date, whatever else you want, click "Apply Filters", and away you go :).

That's got to be a pretty big purge? I can just see people lining up to try out usernames for registration after this. :P

Excuse the presumptuousness, but perhaps you can purge only users who haven't logged on since 2009 and have never made a post? Or some similar criteria to try and eliminate as many contributing users as possible.

I can foresee this causing some trouble with the lore forum D:

Thanks for the heads up :foodndrink:

I wonder how accurate that is. If you sort to last login before 06-01-2009, that comes out to about 70,000 accounts.

If it were only a few users it wouldn't be worth removing them .

Hmm, I can see this has a lot of potential for certain people using it as an opportunity to pass themselves off as someone else.

I believe that any surviving posts by a nonexistant person would be tied to a guest name, so the posts themselves would still survive. That's what it did with Tegger, anyway.

I'm sure I saw him recently... in fact his profile says just a few hours ago. I think my concern is more a case of other people who've been around for a few years being conned by what appears to be one of the many people who used to be very active (though by "conned" I mean along the lines of "for teh lulz" rather than "hey, remember me? Tell me all your credit card details!" obviously!)

If I remember correctly, they've done this multiple times before. It's why the members list doesn't reflect the amount of people who have actually joined this forum over the years. I'm guessing that what makes this different is that the last purges were probably just really, really inactive accounts, while this purge is getting rid of accounts that have just been inactive for 2 years. Or not, I'm just filling in the blanks, maybe a mod could fill us in.

And I too support the "Fonger Conservation" effort.

Can you please delete these 2 accounts? http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/401372-samlynn/

http://www.gamesas.com/index.php?/user/645969-oosis-assis/

They are mine, but I don't use them, and with this whole lulzsec crap going on, I'd just as soon not have to worry about watching them. Thanks. :)

Will that also affect PM's from those users, will they get deleted? I can't find any working way to archive private messages with this new board. It used to work so that you would select all the messages and click archive to have it sent to your email inbox. Now you can only archive one message/topic at a time and the button never seemed to be doing anything.
