My Impressions of Brink

Hello all!

I'm new to these forums, however I have been waiting on this game for quite sometime.

Let's get into it shall we:)

I will say that I am a very competitive gamer. I've played games from MMORPG's to FPS to Strategies. I love them all but I love to be competitive. It just gives me an edge that I like the thrive on.
I've been to MLG events (Major League Gaming) Dallas 08' for Halo 3 and it was fun.

I say that so you will see that I am a serious gamer and am not just whinning about stuff. These are my opinions and that's all:)

1.) K/D ratio? Where is it? I know that Brink will be posting an online source for online stats but there should be a way to see how many kills and deaths I have from each game. If it is there, please let me know how to find it please:)

2.) Playability. The game is fun. Period. I like the gameplay, it relatively smooth and there is just somthing about customizing you gun thats fun:) What I would personally like to see in later updates and patches is more gametypes. Things like, but not limited to, Capture the Flag, Team Deathmatch, Assault (H3) Sabotage (COD) etc.. The two gametypes are fun, but pose a problem of bordome for people who play alot. I personally like to switch it up a bit every once in a while. Now I am PS3 so I don't know about online yet... I anticipate it will be fun.

3.) LAN? I can't seem to figure this one out. Granted I only tried to figure it out for like 5 min. Any help? I hear it is there.

4.) Higher Level Content. I seem to maxed out after about 4 hours of gameplay. No more stuff to unlock. maybe like some clothing items but thats all. I'd also like to see clan tags, emblems, color palates, and other customizable options. These aren't a "need" however, just extra fun. I'm sure it will be there soon:)

5.) Lobbies. It seems as though most people are neutral here. Which is fine. But I am a firm believer in the easier you make it to party and chat with your friends in and out of the game, the better you can make your game. The difficulties should come from the gameplay of things like aiming or straifing or trying to do Par Kor the best way you can. Not teaming and chatting.

6.) Split Screen. Again, a very neutral subject. However, there should be more than one way to have fun with friends. For the poor guy who can't afford Brink or even a system for that matter to play it on, there should be a split screen option so we can have a fun time with friends. Even if its offline. I see no harm in this split screen gameplay.

As far as I'm concerned, I feel this game has an even greater potential than what we can actually see right now. If the dev's could hear the cries of a desparate gamer to fix, tweak or add a few features into the game, we may be able to blow the competition away!

Post comments guys/gals! I'm All ears!

I think if they tighten up the net code, I will play this until Gears 3 comes out. A party system would be nice, but priority is lag for me. As for no system link/lan, that could be for anti pirating or various reasons. It kinda svcks for tournaments though is the issue I see, but online tournaments should still flourish.

K/D for the match would be nice to see. Scoreboard doesn't have much on it. The game obviously keeps track of the stuff, as at the end it says "Most kills". I think they want the focus on team work, and not on killing. Doesn't bother me too much.

Gameplay is perfect for me. The game modes are fine, I like the way it's set up.

Higher level content: I see DLC on the menu, so I'm hoping for new maps and outfits. Leveling up fast kinda keeps it balanced.

Lobbies: You can always make your own game, then open it up to the public. But that means you need to host.

Splitscreen would be nice, but would take a lot of dev time for few people to use it imo.

KDR has been DELIBERATELY avoided by the devs, and that's been mentioned throughout the game's development process.

If you'd been following the game at all prior to release, I'm surprised you managed to miss that.

The focus is on teamwork and objectives, not on surviving or killing.

Those concerns are irrelevant to how you're meant to be playing, so encouraging players to track and obsess over KDR like they do in other games was something SD wanted to avoid. No KDR. Not needed or wanted.

Both well put.

And your right about the KDR. It isn't the focus. However, whats the harm of putting it in? If you would make a game that is this big on the hype... why leave anything out? Go big or go home I say. If you wanna blow the competition away, and i'm sure they would love to swing all the gamers to play Brink, then offer everything.

Even though the focus is on objectives and teamwork, which i love, stats are great to.

I understand that the Dev's wanted to avoid all the obsessing over stats, but let's be real: You put a FPS out there, people wanna see there stats. Period. You don't put stats in, then you have the problems you have now, people leaving shortly after release. It's just basic knowledge of how FPS works. I don't play FPS to "not" see how I did at the end against everyone. Seeing the "Win" is just simply not good enough for me. I know I won, I wanna see how I won. Understand?

I do agree with Bren on saying that I like how the game plays. It is fun. Leveling up is just fun in itself. Oblivion, I agree with you on teamwork. I like seeing my teammates around me fighting for the same thing. It's a really cool aspect of the game.
