Increase level cap?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 7:55 am

I haven't been here long so I don't know if this is a frequent and possibly tiring topic but...

I'm on my first playthrough, I'm level 22, the skills I use most are >= 90 and I still haven't even talked to Mr. House yet. To add to it, I'm a slow player since I save and load a lot to explore the many different dialog options of the many different NPCs.

Am I alone on this or does the exp gain and/or level cap need adjustments?

We might not need a higher lvl cap atm but it would be nice to have a few more perks and some more skill points. If they do increase it i would hope they change the current 1 perk per every other level method.

Leveling up is too fast, not (nearly) as bad as in Fallout 3, but still too fast. I'm also on level 22 on a character with 7 Intelligence, primary skills are already at 100 and since remaining skill points i'll gain 8 x 15 = 120, which means 40 for each three skills i consider secondary (one ending up at 100 and the other over 80s), i'd say the skillpoint gain is pretty good as it is. Raising the level cap with Broken Steel was an epic fail, so let's not go there :D

I think it should just take more experience to level... I'm not even in the outlying area of New Vegas yet and I'm level 22.

It definitely shouldn't be raised. And it's too late to slow the XP progression. If they raised it any, I could practically max out all important skills. I've already got speech, energy weapons, lockpicking, science, sneak, and am a level or two from melee. Give me as many as five levels and I'll be an expert at barter and guns. That's going a little too far.

hehe Broken steel may not have done some things right but the increased level cap did at least add some more hours of fun. i just hope if they do increase the cap they do it right and not half ass it like they did the New vegas map i mean at least i hope they make use of that 20-35% of the map and not just make it some little path with nothing on it.

I do hope they at least will have a few more random encounters because in the open wastes it feels empty not enough enemies or patrols.

It should take more experience to level up. I couldnt believe the rise in XP meter I got after finishing a quest and I got 1600 XP at level 21.

If the cap is raised or taken away completely then all character builds zero out into the exact same build
Which is pretty stupid and defeats a major point in it being an RPG.

It gives you 1 perk every EVEN level. If you're getting one every single level, you have installed a mod.

I am usually against level caps in these games for 3 reasons:

1) If I am done with my character by the time the level increase comes out, I feel "obligated" to push on to max level again. I hate that dreadful feeling of feeling obligated to push to max level, even if simply playing would get me there anyway.

2) I dont need to level up anymore to enjoy the story, or the action. I think by keeping the level lower/tighter, it makes the playstyle of a certain build more unique. That gives me MORE incentive to play any new content with my already-max level character because I enjoy the idea that my end-game professional still has challenges out there. But its so much more interesting to work with the limitations you have.

3) Adding more levels on just risks ruining the balance.

Somewhat distant second to "we need a DLC to let us play on after the ending," but yeah- the horse in question is fairly deceased.

Am I alone on this or does the exp gain and/or level cap need adjustments?

Don't see any problem with'em myself, I'm partway through the "beyond point of no return" endgame at level 25.

Yeah! I remember in FO1 and 2 when it was worth noting anything that could give you 300 exp outside of a quest. Now you can rise 3 levels in a couple hours without even trying.

Since they are enough skill magazines, drugs and clothes to increase your stats temporary there is no need to max out all skills. With skillbooks and implants you are already overpowered.

Yes! I am leveling faster than I did in Fallout 3, they either need to make you get alot less exp or add a couple more levels.

it's fine the way it is.
with the way fonv is setup, there is a multitude of different paths and choices you can make, as well as different builds and setups to use.
decreasing exp gain is going to be a hindrance if anything to players hoping to enjoy these aspects of the game.

also, as you progress in level your actual damage doesn't increase that much, but certain npcs and weapons start appearing. imo being stuck with 100 guns fighting bighorners and geckos at level 10 when you should of been 20 isn't exactly fun...

Don't see why it would be needed.
After people hit that cap they're soon going to ask for another raised cap.
I can do without it.

The level cap is fine the way it is. Even if the level caps gone, it would usually take up to lvl 20-25 to get to the end of the game anyways and by than, ya can go toe to toe with anybody ya meet.

My fav FO3 cap raiser is: http://www.fallout3nexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=121

It's nice because it doesn't actually raise your cap. It gives you a token Misc item equal to the level you would be.

After you hit 30, you will gain xp until you hit 31. But during the level up menu, it gets set back to 30. So you never actually spend any time at a level > 30.

I ported over the Broken Steel version of that plugin to NV while I wait for the author to do an official one. Leveled 4 times since the cap without issue.

So my char is at 30 and I have a Misc item to keep track of the pseudo level ups: # Level: (34)
[34 Misc Items named "# Level:"]

Works much better than actually raising the cap.

Gay?

Discarding that last word I can sort of agree.
Once the 30th level is reached there is no longer any point to get into pointless fights or go to certain areas to farm exp anymore.
And since quests doesn't award you with exp all you get is like 50 to 500 caps for them.
So yeah the game kinda slows down once you reach the cap.
I think we should still be able to level up but don't get any skill points, perks or gain any more health after lvl 30.
Might still seem kinda pointless but I would still like being able to level up even if I don't get anything for it.
