Increase Load Distance?

Post » Sun May 29, 2011 12:54 am

Like the topic says, is there anyway to increase the load distance or (View) distance? other than the highest the settings go? Can the .ini file be tweaked?

Thanks!

uGridsToLoad=5

Thats the setting you want.

Remember to ALWAYS make it an odd number, and that it is an XbyX grid, so 5 means it loads a 5x5 grid making 25 cells. Bumping it to 7 makes a 7x7 grid making it load 49 cells. 9x9 loads 81, etc. So keep that in mind and make sure your hardware can handle it.

Is there no other way or another way to get more load distance?

I'm not sure this is working. I have two GTX 470s... and they are only being utilized to 30% each. BUT ... when I change the ugridstoload=13 - they still do not do anything more and i see a tiny bit of performance hit and nothing too noticeable change on my screen as far as LOAD distance....

Are you sure? Take a before and after screenshot.

Also make sure your setting change isnt being reverted.

Yeah, I'll take screenshots in a few. but... I noticed it was being reverted when I use the launcher. so I just started using the main FNV exe... but... i dont understand why there isnt more GPU usage, if i increase the Distance LOD

Edit: I didnt notice much, so I actually shot it up to 25. and it took FOREVER to load and then it just crashed, so OBVIOUSLY that's no good. so i dropped it to 15 .. and the only thing that happened was framerates dropped to the 40s... no noticeable difference.

This should be affecting the world loading farther away right?

Thats what it did in Oblivion and Fallout 3. However, Im not sure if there is another setting you need to change. I just keep it at the default 5 and only up it for the GECK to 7.
