What the actual Hell is going on in my Skyrim today? I've had plenty of time so I've been on a bit of an epic walk, Whiterun to Dragontooth Crater, no fast travelling. Just past the western watchtower, I was attacked by a Nord; not a bandit, or an assassin - just "Nord" on the HUD. Odd, I thought, but I continued on my way. Down the road a while, I was attacked by a Khajiit - again, listed on screen as just "Khajiit", and no Assassin's Notes or anything in his inventory. What? OK...a little later still, an Orc had a go at me. Then an Argonian, and then a fellow Breton. Then A VIGILANT OF STENDARR.

What in the Bejaysus is happening? Has the whole of Tamriel turned against me? Have I unknowingly passed some threshold in the game after which this is supposed to happen?

Those random people sell you skooma.

Are you a level 4 vampire? Or is there a large bounty on you in the hold in which you are currently walking?

P!nk - no, these weren't those "dealers". They were all heavily armed and armoured, and there was no prior conversation - they just charged out of nowhere and went for me. Plus, I'm pretty sure the Vigilants don't sell skooma.

LostScout - I'm not a vampire, and there is no bounty on me anywhere - my character is extremely pure and morally rigorous. And the attacks happened right across the province; starting from Whiterun I went east along the road into the Reach, north to Dragontooth Crater, then a quick cut through Dragon Bridge in Haarfingar on the way to Morthal before hoofing it back south through Hjaalmarch to get home. I don't think any 2 attacks happened in the same Hold.

So is it really just me?

I have never been attacked by a Vigilant, but I am attacked every now and then by random characters named only by their race.

I had this. Didn`t think much of it. I`ve also been attacked by a Hunter and her dog a couple of times. Then I met another Hunter and his dog and he was ok.

Not quite sure why they attack, but I guess one can`t expect everyone to be perfect just because they`re not labelled `bandit`.

I am often attacked by random Breton, Nord, Redguard and Orcs. I think this is just random encounters. I have never been attacked by Vigilants of Stendar, unless they were raised from the dead by a vampire they were fighting. Seriously, I can walk up to a Vigilant while wearing Ebony Mail, carrying Meridia's sword, with the Mask of Clavicus Vile on my face and Azura's star in my inventory, and they will say "the worshippers of Daedra shall not go unpunished, no-one escapes the Vigil" and walk on without attacking me! So, it must be something you have done, or a really strange glitch

The Nord, Redguard, Altmer and the like are just hostile npcs anyway.
I have noticed I get attacked by hunters and Vigilants after a nice spot of Thalmor 're-education' in the same hold. Have you been fighting Thalmor, Legion or Stormcloak patrols?

They are servants of Chaos sent to give you trouble.

Um, now you mention it, if you were to take a look behind the right boulders along that road you might just find some unexpected things. By which I mean the bodies of a Thalmor patrol or two. Maybe you're onto something.

I have met a few (Nords, Wood elves etc) that have just attacked me for no reason. I see them as helping me get more money when I sell their stuff ^^
