.....Wow. My mind has been blown. I'm not sure if this has ever been posted before, I know I haven't seen anything about it until now. I'm unsure if the project is still going or not, but it'd be a shame for this to never be released. It also looks LucasArts in the face and goes "HA! See? We CAN do seamless surface to orbit gameplay!" :P

Anyway, what do you guys think?

Wow. Thanks for linking this, I'd never even heard of it. If this ever gets released I will be in heaven because it's pretty much everything I ever wanted in a video game.

Reading about it on their website it sounded a lot like EVE Online, which I really didn't like. Then I watched one of the videos and my jaw dropped. This game could be really amazing if they do everything right.

Also, they have a twitter page that seems to get updated a lot more than their website. The last post was on July 8th, so it seems like they're still hard at work on the game.

I remember seeing this quite a while ago and my jaw literately dropped to the floor, I had to get surgery and everything. I've got the scars to prove it. :P

Anyway, I'm really impressed at the rendering capabilities of the engine. I wonder how optimized it is.

I keep seeing this game crop up every six months or so, and it still looks amazing. I just hope it actually gets released sometime. :P

By God, that is amazing.

If I had the money to fund these guys, I would.

I'm going to send this to Game Informer right away, they are pretty good for endorsing these types of things.

Except, I have no idea how to send this to Game Informer.

That's what I figured, but I can't find anything like it.

But, I am notorious for losing things that are in plain sight.....

EDIT: Never mind, found it.

The scope is amazing, but I'm sure I'll be quickly bored of the game. Reminds me of X3, and I got bored of Terran Conflict after...2 hours or so.

I sent them this.

While on the Bethesda forums, a post was made about a game in progress none as "Infinity". As far as I know, this game is not very well known, and I figured you guys might be interested in doing an article on it, or endorsing it in some ways as to put it in the eyes of the general gaming public.

Here is a link to the official site of the project.

http://www.infinity-universe.com/Infinity/

And here are some links to a few youtube videos (it is currently in pre-alpha).

That is the first half of the tech demo.

Here is the second.

I thank you for your time, keep up the good work ;).

I remember first hearing about this game a long time ago. The scale is impressive, but I doubt the surface detail of the planets will be anything impressive. However, if the game Spore was less cartoonish and had worlds of this magnitude, and if the gameplay was a little less tedious, I'd give it another go. The part that most surprises me is that other game companies haven't tried to acquire this guy who made it or his technology. This is an ambitious concept, and I think it could really go somewhere if a big name developer was backing it.

I remember the part that got me though. It was when they flew towards the planet's rings. I made the assumption that I always do, that it's just a simple 2D flat texture because no one ever remembers that the rings of planets are actually comprised of large asteroids and chunks of rock and such. Then he flew by a rock large enough to land on, and there were tens of thousands of them, and I sh*t bricks.

The final space stuff better be amazing and there better be a bit more to planets than just a terrain mesh and randomly placed trees or this will be boring as all hell. Admittedly, what they've showcased so far is only the planet generator and not any actual gameplay, but with the size of the world they're aiming at, a lot of the gameplay content has to come from the procedural generator. Which isn't all that horribly impressive. Agreed the scale at which it generates and the engines handling of LOD is amazing but the actual content doesn't seem that terrific with lots of unnatural looking mountains, simple, indistinguishable tree models randomly placed somewhere. And there really isn't anything there to give it a sense of scale so the planets just seem so small, yet huge and empty.

Looks awesome. However, as nice as it would be to go around virtually sigh-seeing, what's the objective?

Well it's a pre-alpha video, they even said that stuff was absent in the beginning of the video.

Pretty sure I've seen it before, too.

That looks incredible. As a matter of fact, I've been dreaming of the day that a video game comes even remotely close to realistically simulating the beauty and vastness of space. Sure, there's Orbiter, but that's a full-on space simulator with all of the extremely complicated technical stuff to go with it, and thus isn't all that much fun.

I tried Orbiter, and then realized there was a profoundly wise reason why I wasn't an astronaut :P
